Meet our favorite gear-swapping, card-selling, community-loving member: Second Gear! 🎒✨

For 22+ years, this Asheville outdoor consignment shop has helped folks get outside for less. They give quality gear a second life, pay millions back to local consignors, and have donated over $125,000 to local nonprofits. As we all know, Helene did a *number* on their River Arts building...and even in the midst of relocating, they kept right on showing up for their community.

Fun fact: They've been a Go Local member for 9 years and finish first or second in card sales every year. This year, their team turned it into a competition and sold 350+ cards, a personal record for them (and for us!) 👏

(Their secret? Showing customers their savings at checkout. Sometimes the savings alone are worth more than the $ of the card!)

Swipe for the story 👉 then stop by @secondgearwnc and show your Go Local card for 10% off (excluding clearance items).

What's the best secondhand gear find you've ever scored? Tell us below! 👇

Two years after Hurricane Helene, I want to take a minute to recognize and remember the durability of our Western North Carolina communities.

Our local rivers were full of PVC pipes, bulldozers, and ghosts.

But as they’re forever doing, they came back.

Sadly, many beloved places never did. Others continue to struggle.

And still others reopened and are thriving.

Today, @secondgearwnc , the shop in this first clip underwater after the storm is open again in a new location.

There are people, places, and things we lost that won’t come back.

There are things still being rebuilt.

But two years later, I’m grateful for this community, for the rivers, and for everyone who showed up when we needed y’all.

Keep going.

Turn your extra gear into support for the Run828 Foundation 🙌

Have outdoor gear, clothing, or footwear you’re no longer using? Instead of letting it gather dust, consign it for a cause!

Through Second Gear’s Consign for a Cause program, you can bring in your gently used outdoor gear, apparel, and footwear and choose to have your consignment proceeds benefit the Run828 Foundation.

Your gear gets a second life, our community gets access to great used gear, and the proceeds help support the work to support runners of all ages and backgrounds with community, events, and resources right here in Western North Carolina.

Clean out your gear closet. Keep good stuff out of the landfill. Support a local cause and a beloved local business.

That’s a win all around. 💚

Just bring your gently loved outdoor gear and apparel into @secondgearwnc and tell them you would like to consign under Run828’s account and that’s it — you’ve officially consigned for a cause!

After the items sell, Run828 will receive 50% of the profit and 100% of that will go to the mission to serve you!

It’s community helping community, and we think that’s a pretty great adventure to be part of...
