ᴡᴏʀᴅ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ᴛʜᴇ ʙɪʀᴅ by Grayson Bear is up for a Bodega Cat Award for Best Minicomic at the inaugural Brooklyn Expo of Comics! You can vote for this book (alongside some of the best books of the year in every category) until November 14th… but don’t wait!

We’d been talking about workin’ on a book with Grayson for a really long time when they reached out with the initial script and character designs in beautiful graphite drawings. It was so different from other work we’ve seen (and loved) from them and felt like a really great opportunity to push the boundaries of their art and try something new.

We did a bunch of iterations testing out different color linework, different color fills, paper colors… in the end we all agreed to try and get it to look as close to the original art as possible on soft cream paper. What resulted is a book we’re really proud of. It feels as pulpy and old-timey as the dialogue and setting. It’s unsettling and sexy and strange and one of Grayson’s best books.

Anyway. If you like it, please vote for it! Either way, we’ll see ya in New York for Brooklyn Expo of Comics next month. I only have one picture of Grayson, so scroll to the last photo to see them in their natural element.

I had a lot of fun drawing this one and I think it shows in the art. There’s a lot of action, some new environments, and (as usual) a lot of nonstandard comic panels🤙

Insieme abbiamo impastato, dato vita e... mangiato la nostra scultura. Rimane però un bel poster in riso da appendere! Lo trovi dentro il libro!!

We met Rebecca at @trevisocomicbookfestival in Northern Italy in 2025. We were immediately taken with her art, with its colorful, loose linework, and spectacular illustrations! We wanted a chance to pitch her on a future project and picked up all of Rebecca’s books we could. By the end of the festival, we'd chatted about doing something together and almost exactly 1 year later, Rebecca’s fantastic 50-page comic Nuovaluna, a phenomenal work balancing melancholy, sweetness, and the tragicomedy of life, is here! -𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀

When Pallina and Bibi meet together on the 15th anniversary of their friend Luna’s death, Bibi’s strange new friend Nora suggests they summon Luna’s spirit into a makeshift body made of bread. A chance for closure. The night Luna died, the three friends were supposed to see New Moon in the theater together. They’ve never seen that movie… until now.

𝙰𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚁𝚎𝚋𝚎𝚌𝚌𝚊 𝚅𝚊𝚕𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚎 Rebecca Valente is an illustrator, author, comic artist, painter, and multidisciplinary artist born in Asti (Italy), living between Turin and her home in the woods. She teaches Illustration in the master’s program at the Scuola Internazionale di Comics di Torino. Her work depicts nature, living things, smelly, organic, and joyful matters, but also death and other scary things. Rebecca works with screen printing and risography through Zanna Dura workshop, RFI gallery, Spazio Muffa, Secret Room Press, and more. Her first graphic novel La Regina Formica and an illustrated poetry book Il Regno di Zirconi come out this Autumn from NuevoSido (for their Tana Series). Nuovaluna is Rebecca’s first book published in the United States.

part 1, in no particular order, but i did really like that drummer guy kevin...but the best part was the guitar guy kevin...but even better than that was the singer guy kevin...but the cherry on top was really that keyboard guy kevin. lol. anyways, it's also imperative that I tell you that the roti canai at Oma's Hideaway 🤌✨🤤
