Another joyful day of conversations and podcast recordings at the @ubudwritersfest with so many great discussions and deep topics to explore.
My husband arrived to join the fun. Irma and I chatted to so many authors We recorded green room stories.
And listened to some of our interviewees in festival sessions.
Irma interviewed the stunning and bold Sisonke. And I got to meet the warm and generous and deeply compassionate @doctoroxford Dr Rachel Clarke author of THE STORY OF A HEART and DEAR LIFE, winner of the @womensprize for nonfiction who I will be interviewing on Sunday.
Such a thrill to be among such interesting and passionate writers and thinkers and advocates.
Can’t wait to share our recordings with you.

With much gratitude to @ubudwritersfest and @creative.australia for supporting our @secretsfromthegreenroom podcast.

I want to give a massive shout out to @ubudwritersfest festival partner @joyouslyraw.villas for putting me up. If you’re in Ubud please do yourself a favour and stay here!

It’s unbelievably gorgeous and the food is next level, all GF and organic, and prepared with such care. I cannot recommend Joyously Raw enough, both as a place to stay and eat. The staff are all amazing, and this place is literal heaven.

I’m always so busy with work, but I’ve been next-level busy this last few months. Staying here has felt like exhaling. So good!

I’m having brekkie every day in a different spot:
1 & 2: Garden of Prayers
3 & 4: Lunch by the pool (@gabbiestroudauthor , see what I’m reading!)
5 & 6: My private courtyard, which leads straight out to the pool
7 & 8: The Secret Place
9: The steps that greet me every day
10: Lastly, that bed again. Because just look at it!

With thanks to @creative.australia for supporting my @secretsfromthegreenroom podcast with @karen_viggers that has allowed us to come here to produce a third series — coming to your ears very soon! 💚

(Please note that this post is not a contractual obligation; it is a genuine recommendation.)

A wonderful day today conducting my first interview for the @ubudwritersfest with the inspiring slam performance poet miles Merrill @milesdowntheroad

How exciting to hear about Miles work giving courage and confidence to adults and children from all walks of life to create and perform poetry and love words and the joyful work they can do.

An interview full of great advice about how to get words on the page and make them vivid and lively. And how to connect with an audience.

This episode (coming soon) has so much wise and practical advice useful to all authors, not just poets.

Episode coming out soon.

Meanwhile, in the warmth and humidity of Ubud there are all sorts of great sessions and conversations going on.

Sincere thanks to @creative.australia for supporting our podcast interviews in Ubud.
And it @ubudwritersfest for fabulous organising authors for us to talk to.

What an absolute JOY it has been meeting Egyptian-Danish-Australian author Morsi in Ubud! Can’t wait to bring you our chat on my @secretsfromthegreenroom podcast.

We covered so much ground from why he almost gave up on his (now prize-winning) novel to what it’s like to think in Arabic but write in English (I could have listened to Morsi speaking Arabic all day long, and the translations are poetry). Plus we went deep into big stuff around war and love and whether there can be hope in our world right now. This is one not to miss. Stay tuned! 💚

With thanks to @creative.australia for making this special series possible 🙏

Getting into the swing of things in Bali for the @ubudwritersfest where @irma.gold and I will be recording several interviews for the @secretsfromthegreenroom podcast.
It’s important to wind down a little first and get into the mood.

Final day of @cbrwritersfest
@irma.gold and I co-hosted a panel about witch hunts and persecution with @kate_forsyth_ and @charliejaneanders which was recorded for our @secretsfromthegreenroom podcast (so it will be uploaded in a week or two if you missed it).

So many great events to attend.
Faithful and furious sisters with @gabbiestroudauthor and @ayeshainoon was also a fabulous conversation hosted by @sophiegreenbooks
Finished up with a wonderful discussion about reading for joy with Beejay Silcox and @_elainecastillo moderated by the wonderful @putnisandra , artistic director if the festival.

And what a festival it was!! The best yet! Congratulations and thanks to all the dedicated people who put it together and made it run so smoothly.
So good!!!

It is always a joy to share the stage with my dear friend and podcast co-host Karen Viggers, but then to also be joined by Aussie superstar Kate Forsyth and US superstar Charlie Jane Anders made this the most fun.

We chatted about witchy women, hate and fear, love and desire, and the ways in which books can change the world.

The Canberra Writers Festival recorded the session so we’ll be bringing it to you on the podcast very soon. Stay tuned!

Along with meeting wonderful readers, librarians, booksellers, family and friends, here are a few other things that happened on book tour. (Behind-the-scenes of the tour if you like!)

1. Weird eye thing
2. Scary fire escape
3. Cute dogs
4. Lovely cows (I grew up on a farm with cows)
5. Forgot to pack my earrings
6. Many fascinating podcasts
7. Doubling up as a removalist
8. A front page photo
9. Early morning walks in all weather
10. Research for my next book

And so far, I’ve avoided getting a parking ticket like last time (when I got two!) Fingers crossed it stays that way.
