POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We are beyond excited to announce that we have been successful in securing funding from Creative Australia!

This means that not only are all of our costs covered for the next year, but also that for the very first time we can pay authors appearing on the podcast at ASA rates! We are just so thrilled to be able to do this, particularly given that writers so often do so much for so little.

Plus we’ll be travelling to Ubud to produce our third special series with the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival.

A HUGE thank you to Creative Australia for valuing what we do and supporting us to take the podcast to the next level.

And to all of you, dear listeners, for tuning in, and for supporting us through our GoFund Me campaign so that we were able to keep going this year. Our heartfelt thanks go to every one of you 🙏

It’s going to be a super exciting year! And we want you all along for the ride 😊

As we head into our sixth year, and prepare to launch a new season, we thought we should introduce ourselves!

Irma is an author of 11 books for adults and kids, a full-time book editor and, since moving to the Mornington Peninsula three years ago, a dedicated beach babe. She loves travel and adventuring to places most tourists haven’t found. She is mum to three grown kids and a little black cat. Her zen place is on a paddleboard cruising the bay or walking very fast (preferably in the heat) along the beach boardwalk to pumping music. As an author and editor, she gets to spend every day in her happiest place playing with words.

Karen is a novelist, veterinarian and adventurer. When she’s not vetting or buried in a book, she’s climbing mountains and fording streams all over the world. She also loves nature and wildlife and has worked with all sorts of native animals, from possums and penguins to pythons and seals. She’s fascinated by the human-animal bond and animal behaviour. She’s the author of five internationally bestselling novels and lives in Canberra where she walks daily in her local bushland, listening to birds.

💚NEW EP💚

Karen and Irma chat about the uses of dialogue in writing and some of the mistakes writers make, and then talk about their latest book recommendations.

Then Irma speaks to Thomas Mayo about how he found his voice as a wharfie, what it was like being thrust onto the national stage when campaigning for the Voice to Parliament Yes vote, how he dealt with the vicious criticism as a public leader, how Marcia Langton helped him get his first book deal, where he was when the shattering No verdict was delivered, how writing helped him in the aftermath, what publishers can do better to support First Nations stories, the ways in which the government should be supporting the publishing industry, and why seeing a stage show of his book Dear Son with his kids was a career high.
