#REPOST @seemyworldfest 🎞️ FILM FESTIVAL CALLOUT 🎞️ Submissions are open. This November, See My World is hosting its first Film Festival @contactmcr dedicated to Pan-African and Global Majority films from the North of England, and we’d love to showcase your work. Whether you’re an emerging filmmaker or have been making work for years, we want to hear from you. The festival programme draws on the Swahili conception of time developed by Kenyan philosopher John Mbiti, which challenges Western conceptions of time. We are are looking to for films guided by Pan-African principles of decolonisation, social justice, and racial equality, in search of strategies for liberation. How does liberation, especially for black and global majority communities, express itself? You don’t need to make something new for the festival. If you have an existing film (up to 30mins) that speaks to the themes in any way, and it has not had prior theatrical or commercial streaming release, we’d love to see it. There’s no submission fee, and selected filmmakers will receive a £100 honorarium for the screening of their work. 📅 Deadline: 9 October Apply via the link in our bio. Funded by @heritagefunduk #SEEMYWORLD #FILMFESTIVAL #MANCHESTER #happeninginmcr

earlier today, I attended the second community archiving workshop by @seemyworldfest and @aiucentre at the @manchestercentrallibrary we continued to dive into the archives kindly shown by the RACE centre, shifting our focus from oral history to to the histories carried in objects and physical materials.🎞️ the workshop gave participants a valuable insight into practical experience handling archive materials, an awareness of metadata and storage basics, and even ideas for your own personal archive practice!🎥 this was such an engaging session where I met many creatives, artists, and emerging researchers. I learned there are valuable histories in everyday objects and when they aren’t preserved, they are in danger of disappearing and those rich and cultural stories fading away. #archives #oralhistory #phdstudent #archivingworkshop #history

Earlier today, I attended a community archive workshop that was a collaboration between @seemyworldfest and the @aiucentre taking place at @manchestercentrallibrary. We explored what it means to define oral history, considering the role of memory and the importance of archiving experiences and stories📜 We looked at physical and digital archives that showcased the significance of preserving lived experiences within African-diasporic communities. The session taught us how to handle such records and documents with care and gave an insight into the diligent process after a story has been collected. We also discussed approaches to ethical interviewing and even practiced between ourselves using tape recorders!📽️ This was such an interesting workshop that brought light to how many community stories are at risk of being lost due to not being documented and archived. I definitely recommend following the aforementioned organisations and seeing what they have in store next!😁 #community #oralhistory #archives #research #phdstudent
