Earlier this summer, HELI partnered with campus partners to cosponsor the 6th Annual BioBlitz – an incredible event that helps campus and community scientists catalog the biodiversity at the UI Athletics’ Ashton Cross Country Course at Iowa. Participants of all experience levels explored, observed, and contributed to community science while learning from local experts.

It was great to partner with our colleagues and community members to document biodiversity, learn from one another, and celebrate Iowa's natural landscapes. Events like this demonstrate how science, education, and community engagement work together to support conservation!

In honor of Earth Day, Bijou is collaborating with UIowa's School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability and FilmScene to present Soylent Green (1973) 🌎 Before the screening, we will have a DIY Dirt Cup station in the lobby, and professor Silvia Secchi will host a presentation on the realities of global food production and a lack of sustainability💿

🎞 It's 2022, and society is crumbling. As a response to mass poverty and starvation, the government rations synthetic food, dubbed Soylent Green. After a member of the Soylent Company is murdered, Detective Thorn (Charlton Heston) begins to investigate the Soylent Company and uncovers the horrifying ingredients of the manufactured food.

🎟 Tickets are pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $10. You can reserve tickets at the FilmScene box office or at icfilmscene.org 💫

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events.
