Today is the release of the first single from Old Growth Playback - an album and art book written while I was an artist-in-residence at HJ Andrews Experimental Forest in Blue River, Oregon. The art book was designed and illustrated by @aidanalexiskoch and based on Andrews publication prints from the 70s-80s. It was riso printed by @p.s.hudson 🖨️ The full album comes out 10/4/24 but you can pre-order the album, print book and e-book on my Bandcamp page (link in bio). There are several release events coming up that I’ll post soon. Old Growth Playback is made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State legislature, through the Media Arts Assistance Fund, a regrant partnership of NYSCA and Wave Farm. The project also received invaluable support from The Spring Creek Project at Oregon State University, and HJ Andrews Experimental Forest and its Long Term Ecological Reflections program. There's more gratitude to dole out: I'd like to appreciate the fellows at @seethrusound (@mikeclemow and @theodd) who mixed the album.  Mike and I went to college together (if you're counting that's three Ithaca College alum on this album) and I have fond memories of late night talks and sensory deprivation experiments. He's brimming with curiosity and creativity and I was excited to learn he'd turned his ear to music production. I'd like to appreciate their attention to detail, patience with me as I fumbled around looking for the right words and sounds to describe our reference points, and their ability to craft a sound that had depth and breadth.  If you don't know a lot about mixing, I'll tell you this is the part of the process where you decide if the drums are going to snap in your ear or sound like they're across the room, if the vocals will be clear and present or haunting and buried, the positioning of each sound in your ear, and so much more. It's an art. It's like sculpting.  Mike & Wade did an incredible job and I'm so grateful to them.  Their studio is for hire for mixing, mastering and a host of other services and you should check them out.  ❤️

It's here. This is the day. My profound thanks to all whose hands touched this. From the Songwriters who gave prompts and feedback on the songs to the 145 who kicked in to f*nd it, to Paul, Anson, Thomas playing the songs so expertly and beautifully, and the crew at Daylight, to Mike and Wade at SeeThruSound and Piper at Neato, Steve who's pitched it to everyone who will listen, and alllll of you who listen and share and damn even the people who told me I was a piece of shit along the way cause I needed to grow that way to get to this place and of course my amazing therapist, family and community, and my kiddo who all kept me alive long enough to be able to start writing about such difficult years. I hope there's something in these songs for you.
