WE MADE A VIDEO GAME!

We created it to celebrate the whole community that has grown around La Guarimba over the years. It’s also a love letter to the games we grew up with: Zelda, Pokémon, Castlevania, Monkey Island, Space Invaders…

As our little monkey you’ll roam the streets of Amantea, Nonna Saveria’s hometown. You’ll find the festival’s VHS tapes by solving puzzles, defeat the snobbery of film critics, dance with the animators and their characters, share a pizza with the filmmakers and save Amantea from political corruption.

It’s free and you can play it on your phone or computer, in English, Italian and Spanish.

Link in bio.

PS: It’s really hard to beat, but there are lots of fun things to discover!

La Guarimba on film 🎞️

It’a possible to grow alongside a community that once didn’t want you, and now holds you close, because it has understood that cinema is never just cinema.

La Guarimba, like very few other cultural initiatives in Southern Italy, gives me hope: it shows that something can be done. Leaving is a wonderful thing, but coming back can be even better.

La Guarimba is many things, but amidst the chaos, it managed to be a safe place.
And once again, @elreytuqueque pushed me to do something I was afraid to face, showing me that I am capable of it.

Thank you, everyone.

Magnifique as it is, ais krim, ai skri:m keeps traveling and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Let me rewind a little first — this spring, the film was selected for @animationfest and I’m still genuinely honored by it. Australia felt like such an unexpected, wonderful place for this little film to land.

And then summer took over. It started in Italy, screened during @serato_animato , Then it found its way to @anibar_official in Peja, Kosovo, for an unforgettable few days: cheerful people, love affair, a mountain river, and that famous Balkan hospitality.

From there it hopped to @flipbookfilmfestival in Skopje, North Macedonia, and soon it’ll be part of @tiranafilmfest in Tirana, Albania, where I’ll be too, for reasons you’ll find out soon.

I’m still a bit amazed it’ll also screen at @viborganimationfestival in the Best Graduation Film category, and at the Lille International Short Film Festival in France, part of the Best of European Animation Schools programme (though September will find me in Albania instead).

And the tour keeps going: you’ll be able to catch a scoop of ais krim, ai skri:m on the big screen at @animfest and at @etiuda_anima

I’m also hoping to spend a few days at @linoleumfestival in Kyiv, Ukraine, if the skies stay calm enough to make it possible.

And I really hope to meet cheerful people at @cinanimafestival this November

Plus there are random daily routine memory postcards: drawings in Skopje, North Macedonia, thanks to the amazing host Kallinna; nature & people in Peja, Kosovo; left-handed postcards; July moods and the lake Annecy.

Summer is ending, but the joy of life clearly isn’t. Thank you to every festival, every programmer, every friend and every stranger who’s sparked the time next or passing by my path. Due to my nomad, vagabond life, not by choice, this whole laurels video was made on my phone, with my fingers, because I currently have no laptop, no studio to borrow one from.

A program curated by the Italian collective @serato_animato that confronts war through experimental animation, satire, and distorted visions. Far from any heroic or comforting narrative, this selection uses animation as a space of critical resistance, where paradox becomes political language.

Because creating is still a way to resist.

La Guarimba 14th Edition will be held from 7 to 12 August in Amantea, Southern Italy, bringing the cinema back to the people.
