LIFE MAPPER at SERE 2026! From 24 to 28 August 2026, the 15th European Conference on Ecological Restoration — SERE 2026 — brought together researchers, practitioners and policymakers to discuss the future of ecological restoration in Europe. LIFE MAPPER contributed to the scientific exchange with a presentation on “Guidelines for MAPping, ProtEcting, and Restoring Marine Ecosystems”, highlighting the importance of robust and harmonised approaches to marine habitat mapping and restoration. From mapping to restoration: improving our knowledge of marine ecosystems is a crucial step towards better planning, protection and restoration. SERE 2026 was also an opportunity to exchange knowledge, connect with the restoration community and strengthen collaboration for the future of Europe’s ecosystems.

The Wildstory returns after a longer summer hiatus than we had planned. In May, Ann’s father Vern Wallace suffered a devastating stroke and Ann was in Massachusetts for several weeks helping with his care. Sadly, he passed away in late June, just shy of his 90th birthday and of her parents’ 70th anniversary. In this month’s episode of The WildStory podcast by @nativeplantsocietynj @gabrielle_myers joins us as our guest poet, speaking with @annwallace409 about her new collection: Go Forth, Lose Yourself into Life, from Finishing Line Press. Dr. Randi Eckel of @toadshade_wildflower_farm introduces us to the fascinating Eastern Carpenter Bee and why these impressive native pollinators deserve a little more understanding. Then @kimcorrero catches up with @rachel.mackow.art , co-owner of @wildridgeplants , a nursery dedicated to restoring native plant communities that sustain people and wildlife. Rachel shares the realities of running a native plant nursery, why the location a plant is grown matters, and a lot more. Ann and Kim close the episode with a long-awaited conversation with Bill Young and Bob Swain, pioneers in restoring some of New Jersey’s most disturbed landscapes—from landfills and Superfund sites to brownfields and mines. They reflect on the early days of the Native Plant Society of New Jersey, their respective years serving as president, and Bob’s remarkable legacy, now honored through the Bob Swain Native Plant Leadership Award. Meet up with Bob and Bill Sept. 24th and 25th at the @serestoration Mid Atlantic Chapter Regional Conference. Be sure to listen right up to the end of this month’s show. We close with “Plant People FTW,” a new song by @martinebotany and Billy Kelly celebrating all of us who love plants. And don’t skip the ending—the final minute features 25 different lab groups joining in as the Botaneers. Chris Martine, President of the Botanical Society of America, will also be teaching for NPSNJ this fall, so stay tuned for more!

Sigamos cuidando, caminando y regenerando juntos. 🌿 Próximo encuentro: 20 de septiembre en Cerro Perito Moreno – Laderas. Ojalá te sumes. El Bosque te necesita. 1 billion+ hectares pledged for restoration. But how do we deliver at that scale? 🌱 Individual projects alone won't get us there. Entrepreneurship. Finance. Policy. People. Data. Technology. The opportunity lies in connecting the pieces and building an economy around restoration. ▶️ Here's what that looks like. #RestorationEconomy #LandRestoration #UNCCDCOP17 #Business4Land

🌿📚 What a week for Education for Land Restoration at #UNCCDCOP17 Mongolia! From primary schools to universities, one message came through loud and clear: restoring land starts with education. Through two inspiring sessions, we heard from students, educators, researchers, and restoration experts who explored how education can equip the next generation with the skills needed to restore land and build a sustainable future. We were especially glad to hear directly from students representing Shine Ekhlel, Hobby School, Global School, Deutsche Schule, School No. 23, Erdmiin Orgoo School, and the Mongolian State Conservatory School, who shared their perspectives and firsthand restoration experiences. ✨ Highlights included: 🎓 Mongolia's efforts to bring land restoration into classrooms nationwide. 🧑‍🎓 Students sharing firsthand restoration experiences and calling for stronger land-focused education. 🌍 New collaborations to bring land restoration learning materials to schools worldwide. 📚 Showcasing open-access courses on sustainable urban land restoration and innovative agriculture solutions. 🚀 Pre-launching the new global online course "Opportunities in Land Restoration", designed to empower the next generation of land restorers and the “Land Action Labs” to bring nature to schools together with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Global Schools Program. The sessions concluded with a clear call to action: expand access to quality land restoration education and equip learners everywhere with the skills to drive change. Because land connects climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development, and the journey to restoration begins with learning. 🌱 #LandRestoration #RestorationEconomy #EducationForLand #GreenSkills #YouthForRestoration #GenerationRestoration #FutureRestorers #RestorationEducation

Some of the best science happens when projects work together. This week, in Brest, we got to see that in action. A huge thank you to our sister projects, ALFAwetlands, REWET, and RESTORE4Cs, for everything we've built together, and for being part of our special session at #SERE2026. A special thanks to Liisa Ukonmaanaho (ALFAwetlands), Ana Sousa (RESTORE4Cs) and Carlos Sanchez Garcia (REWET), who joined us for the occasion. Thank you for the collaboration, shared knowledge and always enjoyable company. Here's to what four projects can achieve when they choose to work as one. 🌾

--- SER-Europe 2026, Brest 🇫🇷 It was a special moment for us to see our team’s work presented to the European restoration community. Petar Petrov presented the methodology developed by P-United Ltd. within MoreAdapt BSB, combining remote sensing, climate vulnerability assessment and nature-based solutions. Behind one presentation are many analyses, maps, discussions and months of work of the team. And that is what makes it rewarding when the results leave the office and reach the people who can put them into practice. 🌿 🗺️ You can also explore the MoreAdapt BSB Geoportal developed by our team and see part of this work brought to life on the map: moreadapt.eu. #SERE2026 #MoreAdaptBSB #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateAdaptation #RemoteSensing
