“Chasey’s Tackle Box”, 48” x 60”, oil on canvas. This commission has been a few months in the making. I met with these new clients (fine folks) on Sunday, my 55th birthday. These milestones always miraculously align in my life; seemingly as poignant North Stars. Reminders that I’m fortunate to be on the right path. The big reveal moment was a surprise for a spouses 10th anniversary gift and they were thrilled, delighted and amazed when they finally saw the finished product. The work contains roughly 200 Easter eggs; symbols representing a wide range occasions, travels, and events they have experienced together. The meeting lasted over two hours and by the end, we were friends. During these moments, I feel a kind of genuine gratitude and sense of accomplishment that resonates deeply when I consider the miles, hours, and other measurables devoted to my craft. I also reflect on all I have given to my work and how it has given back to me tenfold in return. I realize my life, in large part, has been devoted to protecting and cultivating a sort of strong yet fragile entity. A kind of lightning I’ve learned to bottle and present in my own special way. One of my life’s greatest gifts continues to emerge in the form of days like these. Signals, reminding me with great encouragement to simply keep going. I know I say it a lot, but it always bears repeating. Thank you to all the people who love, enjoy, and support what I do. This was one heck of a 55th❤️

“Fifty Fathoms” 36” x 36”, oil on canvas. My recent works typically receive titles upon their completion. This one earned its moniker at the intersection of my fascination with watchmaking and the realization of its influence on my work. #blancpain famously was an original innovator of the dive/tool watch. It was aptly named fifty fathoms in reference to its durability and water resistance. In my case (pun intended) resilience, endurance, mastery and focus are also at the core of my process. The intricacies in a time pieces’ mechanics, often referred to as complications, mirror the detail, rhythm, and intention in my art; patterns with a purpose, parts of a whole, each engineered to contribute to the work’s function. While my work does not tell time, it IS intended to transcend it. My life, in part, continues to be a form of meditation that has led to creation. Come visit the work in person and be where I have existed for over 50 years. DM a fella🐠❤️

Introducing “Pennies” 48” x 72”, oil on canvas. This has been a well documented, months long odyssey resulting in a pot of gold (and copper) at the end of the rainbow. Both beauty and beast, this giant jewelry box is a celebration of precious metals and a deep dive into the meaning of value, the concept of currency, and the reality of strength in numbers. The work also represents the culmination of persistence, dedication, and hard work. What is truly earned and equally valuable is indeed, the process itself. The experience of creating and the joy of witnessing a work’s evolution. Watch the video to see sunlight dance playfully from coin to coin, noting that the embossed white charcoal does much more than define each shape; it reflects light as well, making this stunner a true chameleon. Penny for your thoughts: DM a fellow with inquiries, etc.

A lovely couple got in touch with me a few months ago, describing what a great time they had meeting me and chatting about my work in Nantucket. Our initial interaction was two or three years ago, and so it took them a while to remember who I was by name and eventually, find me here in Boston. Their grandfather was from Italy and was a sardine fisherman, adding an additional reason for wanting me to be the one to provide something special for a place of honor in their South Carolina home by the sea. We ultimately arrived at a large scale (54” x 54”) limited edition print and fortunately for them, it is so big it’s the first addition; 1/75. Ironically, the original, which is only a bit larger, lives on an adjacent island. This print has such a presence and impact. The translation is absolutely smashing. Much credit to the talented photographers and printers entrusted with this part of the process, and a big congratulations to the folks who stepped up, went (really) big, and got themselves a 1/75🐠🐠🐠🐠

[a fresh faced alien has emerged @ the Seth B Minkin Studio + Showroom] [“The Kraken” 40” x 40” | oil on canvas] [inspired by previous figurative works + my ongoing shapes abstracts] [see ‘white circles deep ocean’, the focus of this composition is on the ethereal, rich blues + the rhythm of the circles] [the subjects’ tones are subdued to quiet the elements of caricature + elevate the more sophisticated surface qualities of the piece] [a range of gold pigments breathe additional life into the work | elements reveal themselves as the angle of the sun shifts] [🌞🌊]

[fresh fish @ the Seth B Minkin Studio + Showroom] [I love this format | 12” x 48” | oil on canvas] [these dimensions are what make these fish sticks “big little paintings”] [interference blue and several other more standard metallics like gold, produce a dynamic surface quality that is delightful to experience in person | these reflective materials do make for a rather tricky photo shoot, but they are well worth it] [I’ve intentionally included one or two unedited photos so that you can see the composition in its entirety | elongated, rectangular formats typically get automatically cropped otherwise] [I’ve embraced a more varied and thereby more natural feeling color palette that randomly flashes and flows from blue to green to hints of red | the heads are little abstract paintings who’s tiny eyes flicker in sunlight] [this is a great opportunity for someone who has been wanting a larger work of art but has limited wall space] [works vertically + horizontally] [🐠🐠🐠]

[a recent delivery + installation adds warmth during a wintery mix] [a beautiful Jamestown RI estate with a view makes for another perfect landing spot for one of my babies] [Chinese Dragon, 36” x 48”, oil on canvas | more spiritual than representational, this composition embodies the dramatic nature + intensity of the creatures’ infamous characteristics] [If you look closely towards the top, you will see a dragon’s head beginning to take shape | in the Chinese culture, the dragon represents good luck, strength, health + also the male element Yang] [the dragon is unique because it is the only mythical creature of all the animals in the Chinese zodiac + more babies are born in the year of the dragon than any other animal] [overall, with all its’ brilliant colors and bold surface qualities, this work of art is a delightful marriage between the dramatic + the serene] [🐲🌊]
