After two amazing days of training - thank you @screensuffolk @setreadytraining @filmfixer @eastsuffolkcouncil …. I found myself @leistonfilmtheatre enjoying the film Mother’s Pride and watching the credits to the end, with massive respect for everyone involved in the process of making a film.

We’ve been hearing a lot recently about how London is now the third biggest city in the world for film production (behind New York and LA) with the industry pouring £2.6 billion into the citywide economy over the last four years. 😮

This article from @bloomberg explains more - with a focus on how Croydon is “using its popularity for filming as a tool to boost local income and bring a positive light to an area more known for negative headlines than its pliability in blockbusters”.

It focuses on the work being done by the Croydon Film Office (which is run by @filmfixer - a UK wide company that manages the dance between film crews, councils and communities) and how they are
“enhancing Croydon’s reputation as a destination for filmmakers”.

The Film Fixer team also highlight how filming has a direct effect on the local economy - from hiring local businesses to catering and paying for parking. Apparently “close to £5 million pounds was directly pumped into Croydon in the last few years”.

Click the link in our Stories to read the article in full - it’s a good insight into how Croydon is carving out a growing role in this global industry. 👍

P.s Did you know @filmfixer offers a two-day training course (via their @setreadytraining) so locals can become location marshals?
