"We were tired of fighting to make space within somebody else’s structure. We wanted to build our own, with care and longevity, that could occupy space in Edinburgh consistently." - @carmxnthompson

We had the pleasure of chatting with @seyivortex from Culture Custodian about bringing the second Jali Film Weekender to life.

Thank you for a beautiful conversation ✨

TLR Dump!

September belongs to TLR Writing Weekend fr!
I had the absolute time of my life at The Lagos Review Writing Weekend. Three days of learning, laughter and good energy.

I missed Lagos so muchhh! It felt so great to be backkkk.

I got to participate in this cohort with some of the most talented and truly inspiring writers of the contemporary Nigerian literary scene. Truly Nigerian writing will go on forever cause these guys are so talented!!!

Stayed up doing last minute reading before classes started!

Swag!

In the never-ending pursuit of knowledge and mastery in one's craft, there are experiences that leave a mark on you. Experiences like the recently concluded The Lagos Review Writing Weekend. I enjoyed the lectures, the tasks, the hospitality, but most of all the people because it's as much fun as it is humbling to be reminded that writers, too, are people.

I'm grateful to have been part of this cohort of The Lagos Review Writing Weekend, and I look forward to more insightful and wholesome experiences courtesy of @lagosreview

Khalid Balogun’s Ripped wants to say something about youth unemployment, the commercialisation of public space, and the Agberoes and SCRAMP policies squeezing Lagos’s creative third spaces out of existence. And it does say it, clearly, urgently. But somewhere between the message and the medium, the film loses its grip on craft. Seyi Lasisi's review asks the harder question: can a film be politically conscious and artistically hollow at once: and what does it cost when characters become ideas before they become people?

A critical read on Ripped, funding, taste, and the limits of message-driven cinema. Now on Moving Grounds Journal.

Some moments are too special to stay in our memories alone and @kingjamesdandy captured them beautifully.

Here’s a glimpse into an evening dedicated to stories, culture, and community.

Thank you for making “An Evening of Trado-Fiction with Moses Ipadeola” an unforgettable experience. Seeing a room filled with people who believe in African stories, laughed, reflected, asked thoughtful questions, and stayed back to connect is something I won’t forget.

To everyone who attended, thank you for choosing to spend your evening with us. Your presence gave these films another life beyond the screen.

“Dey with me” for more of these beautiful moments. 😊❤️🫶🏾🌹
