Stopping the Revolving Door of Violent Injuries

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A huge thank you to @kpixtv for coming out and covering our annual Back to School event! ❤️✂️🎒
This year was truly one for the books. We were so grateful to bring our community together for a day filled with free haircuts, food, backpacks, and plenty of smiles as we get our kids ready for the new school year.

Giving back to our local community is something we’re incredibly passionate about, and seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces — and the happiness of their families — makes it all worthwhile.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, showed up, and helped make this event possible. And thank you again, @kpixtv, for helping us share what this day is all about. ❤️

We can’t wait for the next one! 🙏✨

Community First

What a day! 🙌🏽

Big love to The Academy Barber College for hosting another incredible annual Back-to-School Event and continuing to invest in our young people and our community. 💈📚

Shoutout to The DJ Project for keeping the energy right with the music and good vibes 🎶🔥, Bravo Pizza for coming through with the food 🍕, Road Map to Peace the Wraparound Project SALT association for continuing to show what community partnership looks like, and Cricket Wireless for coming through with the raffle and giving back to our youth. 🎁📱And all our volunteers without you this isn’t possible!

For me, this work is personal. Being able to bring my passion for violence intervention and prevention into the community through CVI and HVIP work means creating opportunities for young people to feel supported, connected, and empowered before a crisis ever happens.

This is what prevention looks like.
This is what community looks like.
This is what investing in our youth looks like.

One student. One community. One connection at a time.

Another Back-to-School event in the books! 🎒✂️❤️

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make our annual Back-to-School Giveback such a success! We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who showed up, volunteered, donated, supported, and helped us create a day filled with free backpacks, free haircuts, food, games, music, entertainment, and most importantly—community.

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids and families we’re blessed to serve. That’s what this is all about.

And a special shoutout to our students! 👏🏽 You continue to put in the work, but more importantly, you continue to show us what we truly value here at The Academy Barber College—using your skills, your time, and your talents to help others.

Giving back is part of our reason. It’s part of who we are, what we believe in, and what we love doing at our school. We’re proud to create opportunities for our students to learn the craft, build their careers, and understand the importance of serving and uplifting the community around them.

The giveback continues. ❤️

To all the students and families heading into a new school year, we wish you an amazing, successful, and blessed school year ahead!
Thank you to everyone who continues to support The Academy Barber College and our mission. We appreciate you more than you know.

Until next time! 🎒✂️❤️

🧡 🩵 As Trauma Awareness Month comes to a close we are acknowledging the transformative outreach of the Wraparound team and their holistic support of #traumasurvivors - Case Managers are the backbone of Wraparound. Case Managers see victims of interpersonal or youth violence while they are recovering from physical injury. They assess patients and enroll those deemed high risk for repeat injury, providing trauma informed emotional support. Case managers sheppard people to risk reduction resources in order to address the social determinants of health. Wraparound is modeled on the understanding that violence is preventable and that with the right intervention, the risk of further violence can be mitigated, and lives transformed. 🩵🧡

How are community-based organizations working to break cycles of gun violence?

Guns are the leading cause of death for children and teens, and disproportionately affect people of color.
Every year, 46,000 people die from gun violence in the US – that’s over 125 deadly shootings every day, according to Giffords.
