CSM Undergraduate Guide 2026/7 – a publication that provides prospective students with a taste of the vibrant energy of CSM life as well as showcasing the work of BA students and staff. The guide also presents CSM’s new visual language, brilliantly and beautifully designed by @martinmcgrathstudio and @leonidasliolios, with the addition of a more extreme version of CSM’s headline font, NaN Rage, used for the section divider spreads, appropriately encapsulating the anarchic spirit of the undergraduate students. A range of paper stocks and Pantone colours were employed to create a sensory and tactile experience for the reader and allude to the material qualities of making and workshop activity. The publication’s dust jacket is left partially untrimmed to include the printer’s colour bars, revealing traces of the industrial processes involved in production. A large part of the design role included sourcing and shaping content, providing an opportunity to communicate a nuanced story of CSM. Contributions include student and staff portrait series by @balintalovits (originally a student project in collaboration with @thats_so_csm) and photography by Fashion Communication Stage Leader Nina Manandhar @warriorprintess and @henritartist. The Wassily chair was born of industrial modernity. Bent chrome steel tubing, the full machinery of mass production. Our Binding Seat imagines what happens when the systems disappear but the devotion to the object remains. The memory of the form, remade by hand. Working from coppiced hazel and London plane timber, @_ed_lewis carved the frame using techniques that predate the chair it was built to resemble. What followed was even more of a ritual. Close to two hundred aluminium cans, foraged from London streets, saved from @badd_esigns UAL parties, donated by high street recycling, were burned in a backyard kiln until only the ghost images of corporate logos remained on their surface. Quiet traces of the world the cans once belonged to. @jaxonstickler and @sged_mash then clad the chair by hand. Each panel cut to follow the contours of the wood beneath, nailed one at a time. The last act was the binding. In the final days before shipping the show to Vienna, Jaxon wound twenty metres of organic cotton ribbon, dyed with natural indigo, around the finished frame. The gesture borrows from handfasting, an ancient ceremony where two hands are bound together with cord to seal a vow. Here, it binds the sitter’s will to the service of the Market, imagining the object as part of a wider coming-of-age rite. In that final motion, the craft became the ceremony. 5m² Syed Murshed’s 5m² is a sculptural response to the environmental cost of fast food, using the form of a hamburger to reveal the hidden impact behind its production. Presented in custom packaging, the work turns a familiar object into a playful but unsettling invitation to reflect on consumption and deforestation. 📍On view until 11 July at @artmovementlondon

Pitter Patter (Umbrella) This project celebrates the hybrid and mixed cultural experience of 2nd gen Bangoli immigrants; translating the auditory, visual, textural and olfactory experience of ancestral home in London. This enquiry takes the shape of a range of artefacts. Here is a corrugated aluminium umbrella; heavy rainfall is one of the few things the two places have in common, mixing traditional corrugated roofing from Bangladesh with umbrellas which are seen as a British icon. The umbrella emulates the sound, sight and scent of a traditional Bangoli village home during rainfall but in the uk; there is a very distinct sound corrugated roofing makes which can now be experienced here.
