Deadlift on the Low Row Cable: Blasphemy or Brilliance?

Yes, you can deadlift on the low row cable.
No, the gym gods won’t strike you down… probably.
Let’s talk about it.

PROS
– It’s stupidly easy to set up. No plates, no collars, no maths. Just clip and go.
– You can go deeper, which means a bigger range of motion. More stretch, more control, more work where it matters.
– Great for learning the hinge if you’re still fighting gravity like it’s your enemy.

CONS
– It feels like committing a sin. Deadlift… on a cable? Somewhere a barbell just cried.
– If the cable breaks, you’re done. Session over. Life choices questioned.
– People will look at you like you just put pineapple on a pizza.

So is it wrong?
No.

Is it traditional?
Also no.

But if it gets you hinging well, loading your glutes and hamstrings, and training safely…
Then who cares if @sgptraining at the squat rack is judging you? 😜

🐾 Teaching your dog a few key cues is essential for effective communication and a well-behaved pup. Let’s break down the purpose of teaching your dog their name, as well as the cues “down,” “stay,” and “recall.”

1️⃣ Your dog’s name is crucial—it’s the foundation for getting their attention. When they hear it, they know to focus on you. It’s NOT a recall.

2️⃣ “down” cue is invaluable as it encourages your dog to settle into a relaxed position, making it easier for them to stay calm when you need them to hold that position.

3️⃣ “stay” cue. This one’s important because it should allow you to turn your back and move away from your dog confidently. Your dog should be able to remain in place until you release them.

4️⃣ recall cue which can be any word you like (e.g. “come”, “here”, “ici”) or even a specific behaviour such as targeting your hand “touch” or go between your legs “middle”.

🏆 RESULT: when you combine all the above, you create a reliable way to control your dog and bring them back to you safely. For example, think about when you need to go first to make sure it’s safe to cross the street. Having your dog in a “down” / “stay” position allows you to focus on the surroundings without worrying about them running off into traffic. It’s all about safety

🐶 Disclaimer: It takes time and dedication to get them to this point — training in the park is just part of their daily routine! Think of it this way: we learn to read when we’re young, but that doesn’t mean we stop reading afterward. Learning is an ongoing journey, and the same goes for our dogs— #practicemakesperfect 🐾

What do dog trainers do when they have some spare time? Train dogs to practice and improve their skills 🤪 Best way to become better at your job:

✔️ Film your sessions to evaluate your progress.
✔️ Ask a qualified dog trainer to shadow them.
‼️ We do offer practical skill mentoring for anyone interested in dog training and behaviour. Get in touch if you’re interested.
✔️ Team up with another dog trainer.
✔️ Enrol on an accreditated dog training course listed on the Animal Behaviour & Training Council @abtcouncil

‼️ Only use positive reinforcement and ensure the dog is happy to participate in the training.
