Who should we be collaborating with next?

One of my biggest takeaways from curating ShadesOf Atonement is just how powerful collective spaces can be.

Art has an incredible ability to bring communities together, spark conversations and amplify messages far beyond the walls of an exhibition.

Across our ShadesOf Shows series, we’ve platformed over 115 emerging artists and welcomed 2,000+ visitors.

And we’re only getting started.

We’re looking to connect with brands, cultural institutions and organisations that believe in the power of art, community and emerging creative voices.

Who do you think we should be speaking to? Tag them below!

My film camera had the pleasure of capturing some fabulous faces over the course of our 6 day exhibition - ShadesOf Atonement.

As always, we are eternally grateful for the love and support we’ve had on all three of our hugely successful group shows at @thebombfactoryartfoundation Marylebone space 🤍

What would mean the world if you came along and felt impacted by the work, stories and world we curated around the word ‘atonement’, is that you take a little extra time to fill out the feedback form in the @shadesofshows bio 💌

We’ll see you very soon 💐

“Draga Mama”, Oil & Biro on Canvas, 60 x 40cm, 2024

“Draga Mama” is a portrait of my mother, capturing a moment shared between us in our family home. She reads aloud letters she had written to her own mother during the Bosnian War. These letters were sent during her time seeking refuge from Sarajevo, separated from her family, and living with the uncertainty and fear that defined that period.

The angel in the top left corner was on one of the envelopes we found, and next to it my mum wrote “on čuva Sarajevo” (he is protecting Sarajevo). I painted it as a symbol of hope & protection.

The contents of the letters gave me an insight into her life at my age. Reading them showed me how she was able to persist and live through the ever confusing times of being a young woman, despite being torn from her country and living in constant fear for her family who were left behind. Both my mother and grandmother believe this communication to be one of the main sources of hope and resilience through those years spent apart.

My intention for this work is to tell their story, celebrate their relationship and encourage viewers to reflect on their own personal connections. Big thank you to @shadesofshows and @thebombfactoryartfoundation for giving me the opportunity to exhibit this piece, and to everyone who visited and connected with my work. And of course thank you to my mum for sharing this experience with us. 💌
