Posting a photograph I shot from one of my first art courses at CSUSB. Having just graduated, I am reflecting on this image with immense gratitude for the journey it has propelled me in the arts and design at CSUSB. A heartfelt thank you to all my professors, friends and family. Your support, inspiration, wisdom, and the opportunities and friendships you all provided have been invaluable. Words cannot fully capture my appreciation I have had since day 1. College was more than just a pursuit of a degree; it was a transformative journey that has shaped my path and purpose. Here’s to the next chapter of our creative journeys,  cheers to the future and the adventures that lie ahead! 🎓📸 🎥 🎨 #csusb #grad #graduation #art #artanddesign #design #degree #designer #fujifilm #analogphotography #digitalphotography #graphicdesigner #sanbernardino #california #storyofthestreet #streetphotography #photography #photographer #blackandwhite #blackandwhitephotography #dog #first #journey #future #thankyou #artist #portrait #🎞 #🎓 #📸

Join us for a new MAL Practitioner in Residence workshop! Build Your Own Creative Person’s Survival Kit! (and Other Strategies for People Insistent on Waking Up Tomorrow and Trying to Do Something Interesting) Workshop by Rob Ray @shimmeringtrashpile Date: April 25, 2024 Time: 3-4 PM Where: Media Archaeology Lab, 1320 Grandview Ave, Boulder You might be asking, "What the heck is a... Creative Person’s Survival Kit?" Imagine you're traveling to visit family you’re ambivalent about. Or, perhaps you are headed out on a work trip where you'll be stuck in a lousy airport Radisson. We all have scenarios in our lives where we feel forced to put our inspirations on hold, wait for the Zero-Creativity Storm to blow over, and then hope we can rekindle our making and doing once we're back. But if you have a few objects and strategies on hand to energize and facilitate your improvisational creativities, you can reclaim your artistic agency and maybe even make something inspired and rewarding! In the workshop, we'll share how we stay motivated and help one other concoct our very own bespoke and portable Creative Person’s Survival Kit, a small bundle of things that help us stay creative no matter how bleak our surroundings may seem. Rob Ray is an artist and Associate Professor of Design at California State University, San Bernardino, where he is currently researching the intersections of site-specific mixed-reality technologies and experimental documentary storytelling. Rob is also a DJ and Station Manager at KDZU, a fictional real radio station broadcasting from Los Angeles, California, Goldfield, Nevada, Gothenburg, Sweden, and Boulder, Colorado. Rob was previously a lead designer for ProtoSpace, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s mixed-reality collaboration platform. Rob has also worked as a technical experience designer, building mobile interfaces for Electronic Arts and Industrial Toys. From 1999 to 2008, Rob was the founding curator of the DEADTECH, a proto-hackerspace and electronic arts center in Chicago, IL. www: https://robray.net IG and mastodon : @shimmeringtrashpile

Shoutout to Rob Ray @shimmeringtrashpile for his contribution to my CHIRP Radio 107.1FM @chirpradio fundraiser! I don't even know where to start with describing the awesomeness that is artist and Associate Professor of Design at California State University, San Bernardino Rob Ray. I knew him because he was the DJ that came on after me when we were both did shows at WZRD in the '90s. Did I go on before him or did he go on before me? For the life of me I can't remember. Anyway, he ran this artspace called DEADTECH here in Chicago, over on Fullerton in Logan Square for over 10 years in the late 90s early 2000s, and I was at the first show. (I saw a lot of amazing experimental and noise performances there, and I remember Mark Gunderson as The Evolution Control Committee playing samples on these gloves in the context of what I can only describe as "infomercial performance art".) Rob was a lead designer for ProtoSpace, the NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s mixed-reality collaboration platform. (!!) Also he's a DJ at KDZU, a fictional real radio station possibly based in Goldfield, Nevada. Thanks, Rob! Though the fundraiser drive ended today at 3pm, I'm told the link for contributions will be open for a couple more days even though the push is over. So if you still want to pledge your devotion to community radio that link will be open for a tiny bit longer. If you do a sustaining member pledge at the bigger CHIRP site let me know so I can write a post about you! PLEDGE YR DOUGH AT LINK IN BIO. #CHIRP #communityradio

Got a nice bedside/desktop/travel alarm clock, from Marathon Watch Company Ltd. The company is Canadian (Ontario,) the timepieces are designed in Canada, but made in Switzerland. . The clock is quartz, but has a silent, sweeping seconds hand, like an old electric! Unusual. (See last video). Plastic case is of a pleasing blue-grey color, 9.5 x 8.9 x 3.8 cm (6 mm taller than wide). So, it's not as compact as those super small travel alarms the size of two matchboxes, but could easily pack. . Red button on top (oh, I love it) for alarm on/off. Clockface is easy read, and the dial and hands have features that are consistent with Marathon's military timepiece heritage. . Amber backlight that you set to either come on and stay on when it's dark, or come on briefly only when you tap the snooze/light button (saves battery in this mode). They give you 2 AA batteries. They may not be Duracells, but they are free! . The clock was currently only $15! As there is a sale going on at their website, if anyone is interested. There are other colors. (NB, I have no connection to Marathon). . Marathon began in the late 1930s, from an earlier predecessor, and continues to be family run. They are the sole supplier of watches to the US armed forces, making watches to the MIL-PRF-46374 specification (previously called MIL-W-46374). They make watches for the militaries of other countries as well. The watches are designed by Marathon in Ontario, and manufactured in Switzerland, by Gallet (a continous company since 1466). It's an interesting arrangement. . I've had a few Marathon wristwatches, but this is my first clock. Thanks, @wvautrain for alerting me to the great deal on this beautiful and silent clock from a well-known brand! . #vintagewatch #vintagewatches #watches #watchesofinstagram #wristcheck #watchphotography #dailywatch #watchcollector #relojes #reloj #luxurywatch #watchfam #instawatch #mywatch #wotd #womw #swissmade #swissmadewatch #clockface #clocks #alarmclock #clock @marathonwatch @galletwatch @galletwatches
