#ArtbankNewAcquisitionAlert

Artbank is pleased to welcome works by Shannon Lyons to the collection.

Lyons' practice explores the complex relationships between people, place and history. Created using coffee, tea and pencil, these delicate works draw on the overlooked stories of Goolugatup Heathcote in Perth, a site with a layered past as a former mental health facility. Through subtle monochromatic imagery and poetic references to remedies such as Calm Mind and Revitalise, Lyons reflects on themes of care, memory and healing.

Now part of the Artbank collection, 'Moral Injury II,' 'Things went on II,' 'Things went on III' and 'Anhedonia (bottomless cup)' showcase the artist's thoughtful approach to uncovering the histories embedded within a place.

See these new acquisitions in 'Shuffle,' on display now at Artbank Melbourne.

I’m honoured to have my Self Care Action series included in the new exhibition ‘Rest time’ curated by @lauraelizabethcouttie

The exhibition opens next Saturday 11 October at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre from @4-6.30pm and you are invited 🚗 🖼️

Rest time is an exhibition that offers space for slowing down, positioning rest as a meaningful and constructive form of resistance.

The exhibition emerges as a response to the capitalist, patriarchal, colonial and ableist systems that equate human worth with productivity. Against a backdrop of burnout in response to the constant drive for progress and production, the artists in this exhibition embrace slow approaches to making and experiencing art as both an act of defiance and of self-preservation.

The exhibition features 5 artists:
Jingwei Bu @jingwei_bu
Emma Buswell @embuzza1
Kate Just @katejustknits
Shannon Lyons @shannon_lyons
Dhana Merritt @dhanamerritt

Please join the opening celebration on Saturday, 4:00-6:30pm

+ During the opening, Jingwei Bu will perform and Dhana Merritt will activate a work.

+ Visit the Bundoora Homestead website for more info about free public programs through the exhibition including a knitting circle I’ll conduct on 8 November.

Special shout out to champion @s.amgol.d for driving half my work from Adelaide to Melb and @lauraelizabethcouttie for doing a country drive up for the other half! ❤️🥰
