Resilience 🧡 This mama navigated the waves of labor with such grace and strength.

I’ve been meaning to share this incredible birth story for a while - it’s a beautiful and inspiring thing to get to document the strength of mothers doing one of the most difficult things they will ever do!

Layla absolutely CRUSHED her first Kids Market yesterday! Thank you for having us @kidsmarkets 🥹 I could write a whole post about how proud I am of her, but watching her confidence grow in just a few hours was the sweetest thing. She came out of her shell so much, and I couldn’t be more proud.
Also so thankful for friends who show up and support! Grateful for you @shannonberwind

THIS IS A CONVERSATION ABOUT ACCOUNTABILITY.

No, I don’t have every detail. And I’m not pretending I do.

But I keep coming back to one question:

What does accountability actually mean when another human being has been harmed?

Because accountability isn’t an essay.
It isn’t checking a box.
It isn’t protecting a reputation.
And it isn’t simply making a problem quiet enough that everyone can move on.

Accountability should require something from us.

We understand this when it comes to academic integrity. We understand that actions have consequences when someone cheats, plagiarizes or violates the standards of an institution.

So why does the conversation become so complicated when the thing we’re talking about is another person’s dignity, bodily autonomy and safety?

And this is bigger than Cornell.

Women are watching.

Girls are watching.

Survivors who have never told anyone what happened to them are watching.

And they’re asking a very reasonable question:

If I speak, will anything actually happen?

Think about a fire alarm.

You pull it because you trust the alarm will lead to a response proportional to the danger.

But imagine pulling it—and learning that the response may be paperwork.

Eventually, people stop believing there’s a reason to pull the alarm.

That is why accountability matters.

Not because we want to destroy someone’s future.

Because someone else’s future matters, too.

We can believe in due process AND believe consequences should meaningfully reflect substantiated conduct. Those ideas do not have to compete.

So maybe this is the conversation:

What should meaningful accountability look like when harm is substantiated?

Because if our answer to trauma is an assignment—

we’ve confused accountability with homework.

SEE HER.
HEAR HER.
BELIEVE HER.
AND THEN DO SOMETHING.

My favorite August moments ✨

My favorite month, and this one felt extra special.

A month of peace, reflection, gratitude, and a deeper trust in God’s timing. A reminder that even in the seasons I didn’t understand, He was still working and carrying me through.

26 was a year covered in grace, and I’m walking into 27 with a grateful heart.

Hello, 27. ✨

Who are those fellas behind me? Oh just MOUNT RUSHMORE! Yes I was able to make it safely all the way to South Dakota! What is as far wet as I am driving, but not as far West as I am traveling. Thank you to everyone who has poured into SHE SPEAKS! For the sister queen who I lit up with along the way, for all of the shelters who have sat down and listened to all of my questions and made time for me. I’m getting so much more together with our ever growing network for victims and survivors.

I was so encouraged by a lot of the conversations. I’m also extremely aware that there’s a lot of work to be done… and I’m nowhere near finished.

thank you so much to everyone who has been supporting! @shannonberwind @mrsabigaileberhart @havallamuirhead @taylordemario34 @james.jernigan13 & Bri! @spanishyogigg @kenley.vaughan @mrsbrooklynrivera @malissa.k.mckay
