Finding flow deep in the desert ✨🏜️

Life has been doing that thing it does where it gets real and throws curve balls. Some good, some not so good.

Social media was set on the back burner for a while and while the algorithm may have punished us, our people did not. Happy to say our clients have been super supportive and we are going strong over here at Athena Rock Climbing.

Doing our Joshua Tree thing, ten years into being in this area, with lots of private guiding, mentorship programs, affinity programs, and one-of-a-kind events! We’re out here!! And we’re stoked! We just chose to ignore the gram for a while…

The last few years has been about finding myself away from my identity as a mother, to do things in this 56 year old body I wished to do when I was 26. The journey has been a good one: many new adventures, wonderful community, and a body that’s still holding up to the task albeit with lots of rest and TLC. My path to everything I do has been a bit unconventional, like becoming an AMGA Certified Rock Guide at 55, but I’m still growing and having so much fun. I believe that I have some of my best years ahead of me. My fall Red Rock guiding season is coming to an end as I prepare to head to Asia. This season I’ve gotten to spend time with wonderful people rock guiding for @themtnguides and teaching a 4-day Women’s Outdoor Climbing Intensive with @alpineinstitute. I love teaching because I love learning just as much.

Speaking of learning, last weekend I made a little more peace with my most dreaded climbing style with the one and only @shanti.pack and the amazing crew of @athenarockclimbing in gorgeous fall Joshua Tree weather. I came back to Red Rock and promptly tested what I learned on the Chryster Crack - it’s starting to click!!! One week later and I still feel chewed up, OWs are such my anti-style but I feel blessed that after 30 years of climbing, I still love to wrestle rocks with every cell of my body.

More learning on the horizon… a few days ago, I found out I’ve been awarded a scholarship by @womenofwinter to take PSIA-AASI Level I ski instructor course/exam in Big Sky in February 2026. I am so freakin’ excited to add skills to my tool box so I have more ways to share the outdoors with others. This year, nothing worked out as planned, yet everything is working out the way it should. Leaning in to the things that bring me joy and hope to fortify my soul is the only way through these crazy times. Stay strong, stay curious and stay grounded in love.
