So you want to be a Movement Director… ✨

Truthfully, I didn’t grow up knowing this role even existed.
I found it after thanks to mentor & friend @marjoriemae dared me to dream bigger!

Almost 9️⃣ years ago, I took the leap from teaching drama, dance & technical theatre in San Diego and applied to the incredible course @cssdlondon MFA Movement Directing & Teaching combining my love of directing and choreography and storytelling, and all the things that live between the lines ✨ there was no Plan B, this was the next step! Moving to London to train and start a new career and adventure!

A few things I’ve learned along the way:

✨Movement direction is often about sculpting the unseen 🤍

✨It’s not about “adding movement” for the sake of it. It’s about listening deeply to the story, the people in the room, and what needs to be felt. And propelling the story forward!

✨My role is to support the director’s vision while bringing my own sensitivity, intuition, and creative language into the process.

✨And honestly? The room matters just as much as the final result 🌱

✨How people feel in the space affects the work. Building & cultivating trust is one of my greatest tools. The work is the work, and I gotta do the do 💃🏼✨

If you’re starting out, here are a few things that helped me:

Train. Read. Assist. Make your own work. Take workshops. Stay curious. Keep learning 📚

Say yes to rooms that challenge and stretch you. Protect your creativity, but don’t wait to feel “ready” before beginning ✨

And above all, be kind.

People remember how you make them feel long after rehearsal ends 💛

If you’re exploring this path, feel free to drop a question below or book a “pick my brain” 🧠 session with me. Link in bio. I’d genuinely love to support your journey ✨
