🟧🟦🟩 Tracing Together 🟥🟪🟨 is now fully up and running at @eastburymanor, with the addition of all the new submissions from yesterday’s workshop! Thank you to all the lovely participants who joined us to learn about low-resolution image-making and contribute to our growing installation on LED screens. In its new location at Eastbury Manor House, Tracing Together reflects on the evolution of tapestry as a medium. Historically, Elizabethan tapestries would have hung in houses like Eastbury Manor, telling stories through woven images. Here, those traditions are reimagined through contemporary digital processes, creating a new kind of tapestry that maps the lived experiences of local communities. 🗓️ You can see the updated installation on Fridays 10am-4pm and Sundays 11am-4pm throughout the summer. There is also an interactive area where you can encode your own messages using the leaflets and see your artwork showcased as part of the installation too. Look How Far We’ve Not Come; 2026 After Fridays local election results, it’s very clear that we are heading towards a very clean cut, “Them” & “Us” divide, which if not addressed immanently, it will widen even further in the near future. What is also clear from these results are how bad the education systems & family values are failing and regressing in the UK. Perhaps we can never escape the deep rooted, ingrained prejudices & scapegoating of our past? The past that I personally encountered when my family & I arrived here for refuge in the 80’s. Feels like they’ve just been awakened from their long slumber. I’m very sorry to say & see this once again. 📸2-7 I have included some images from GLC’s London Against Racism campaign from 1984, that feature in the fantastic new book, London’s Ours! Meet Claire Mason, the graphic designer at the Women’s Museum ✨ Claire has always loved art and design. She studied Design at @goldsmithsuol and began her career at a production company that dressed and fitted many of London’s LGBTQI+ venues in the 2000s. This early experience taught her how design can shape experiences in playful ways, and she’s carried that approach into the Women’s Museum. Claire has been part of our space since the very beginning, when she designed a timeline featuring notable women of Barking that covered the exterior of the Museum before it opened. She also created our logo, drawing inspiration from the borough’s rich history of women’s activism. She based the shapes of the ‘W’ and ‘M’ on an archival photograph of women holding a political banner not far from our space. 🟧🟦🟩 Tracing Together is now open @thewomensmuseum in Barking! 🟥🟪🟨 Tracing Together is the Summer artistic commission developed through a series of drop-in workshops with the local community. As the second addition to the current exhibition, we were responding to its theme and title of Desire Lines, which is when a new path is created instead of following one that already exists. Picking up threads from the Spring commission Tender Women by @sahra_hersi, we explored the theme of Desire Lines by looking at histories of connection to place through cross-stitch embroidery, such as Palestinian Tatreez and similar practices from other cultures. Tracing these traditions to low-resolution, small-file digital images, we invited people local to the Women’s Museum to create patterns and motifs that speak to personal journeys, overlooked routes, places and things that matter to them in the local area. Workshop participants encoded places, stories, or feelings into a collective digital tapestry, now presented in Tracing Together, an installation of LED screens that visualise points of connection and traces left for others. 🗓️ Tracing Together will be running until the end of the year! You can check it out Thu to Sat, 12-5pm. 💙 We are so grateful to everyone who came to the opening last Saturday, participated in our workshops and helped bring Tracing Together to life! I was going through a lot of pain in my personal life at the time & the evening was dedicated to our dear PP, who we’d laid to rest earlier that day. In an age where you’re confusing silent social media voyeurism as friendship, I know what it takes to actually drag your ass out & breathe real-life-support. Thank you to all those who attended/supported OTHER & The Stories Of Other. I’ve never received so many flowers🤗 & I’ve never cried along with so many strangers as I did with this body of work. Thanks to all who came & shared their Stories with us and resonated with the artworks. I SEE you, you SEE me & I SEE We/Us. My dark night of the soul talismans in Black… With the absence of light & the absorption of their surroundings- the White text become the reflection, made up of all visible light, within your mirror, they conversed to an “Other/s” selective consciousness… I am, the self-nourishing vessel, Us/We/Other & this is only the beginning of the story. These self-funded/ underfunded DIY projects do really take a village- too many people to thank but I’d like to give particular acknowledgment to the people who supported with logistics/production. 💜Love & Gratitude to John Brotherhood, Formd, John Atherton, Boost, Ova, Annie Attridge, Yulia I, Erik Perera, Jordan Taylor, Michael Wormack, Theo, Neda, Zoe, Mandi Goodier, Len Chapman, CW Stubbs & Paige Megan Hawley.
