Today I woke up with heaviness. I picked up my good sis book @shaquii_dan and flipped those pages and landed on “INHALE•EXHALE•REPEAT” which could not have been a more timely reminder to BREATHEEEEEE SIS!

Life can sometimes feel like a lot EMOTIONALLY, PERSONALLY, RELATIONALLY, PROFESSIONALLY, FINANCIALLY every other ALLYYYY! And we can get so caught up that we not even breathing right.

Be still. Take a moment. BREATHE!

You got THIS!

What can I say…

I have the most amazing wife in the world!
I have some amazing friends that I love and enjoy having fun and doing life with.
I honestly feel so so blessed!

Rounded out the birthday month in GRAND STYLE with a surprise I’ll never forget 😆🥳🍻🛥️🕺🏾

I told my wife that I was thinking of doing a yacht for my 40th birthday. And here I am at 35! 😂😂 thank you so much baby! @shanannaleah

Also, I have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to the phenomenal team at @silvermoonbarbados for rolling out the red carpet for us. What an amazing experience!

Here’s to more unforgettable memories 🙏🏾🚀

Another pink book for October 🎀

Whispers is a collection of thoughts, affirmations, vignettes, journal entries and sketches. Each brief piece functions as a standalone so that the reader can, with ease, "take what you need" at any given point.

The lined pages throughout the book provide space for the reader to jot their own thoughts. The work is less about what we can learn anew and more about what we should constantly feed and rehearse to ourselves to survive difficult and doubtful times.

Generating this kind of space, however, comes at the expense of transgressing neat genre margins. It doesn't fully lean into memoir or poetry or devotional. The work departs from other traditional navigators. For example, in a cosmetic sense, it deviates from a table of contents (a self aware admission) and supplies a list of guiding notes in its place. On a deeper level, it foregoes a distinct narrative arc to enable readers to approach the work from any page in any direction.

The profit of this method deployed by the book shouldn't be underestimated as the encouragement the work offers includes elements that can be easily forgotten and overlooked but at the right moment can be revolutionary and necessary to remember.

The budding tone and style are reminiscent of inspirational quotes from writers like r.h. sin, MHN and Heather Lindsey. So if you enjoy their work, this might be for you!

My schedule has been wild but I just can't let challenge #27 #flatlayfriday pass me by! I plan to go back and do all the other prompts when I get a chance but in honour of Barbados's independence take a look at the Bajan books I own :)

I have a few on kindle like Karen Lord's Best of All Possible Worlds and Shaniqua Howell-Forde's books as well as a copy of Malissa Craigg's @malissacraigg fantastic devotional (not featured here but in my office) called Whispers of a Scribe.

And I'm getting some more books by Callie that I can't wait to show off when I play catch up with this challenge!

I think my obsession with Kamau speaks for itself so no surprise there. And my thesis was on Karen's work so I must have everything she writes! Just waiting for her newest book now. I know I need to up my Austin Clarke game and I plan to get Harclyde's and Peter's books soon. I'm obsessed with Cherie's prose so I will buy everything she publishes.

This is by no means all the Bajan books I've read. All my other reads by Esther aren't here. But there are so many works to choose from, traditional or self published and there are so many more that I need to collect! Any familiar looking works here for you? For independence go out and get some Bajan books!
