🍙 Learning Korean doesn’t stop at the book!

At Wisdom Speaks Korean, our students keep learning while they cook. Today we made kimbap (김밥) together at House of Wisdom, Sharjah, and learned the Korean words for every ingredient as we rolled. 🥕🥒🥚🍚🥩

당근 (dang-geun) – carrot
오이 (o-i) – cucumber
계란 (gye-ran) – egg
밥 (bap) – rice
고기 (go-gi) – meat

This is Korean that comes alive: you hear it, say it, touch it and taste it. ✨

Welcome to @sharjahhow A place that is so close to my heart that I could live here. The library offer dedicated space for women to work, study and do research without having to worry about anything. The place also offer a great coffee shop and couple of eateries to choose from if you are hungry and need a snack or a proper meal.

The House of Wisdom was commissioned by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah in celebration of Sharjah winning the UNESCO World Book Capital 2019 title.

The building was designed by the award-winning architectural company, Foster + Partners. It extends over 12,000 square metres and includes a futuristic structure serenely surrounded by gardens and outdoor activity spaces. The architecture, which is sustainably driven, seamlessly integrates natural lighting and nature. Each space is designed to be functional and adaptive to the needs of the community

“How does Sharjah build bridges with the world?”

Attended an event at the House of Wisdom, where I gained a broader perspective on how culture, education, and government relations strengthen Sharjah’s international connections and contribute to building meaningful, long-term relationships across borders. Hearing from people with years of experience reminds you how much wisdom there is still to gain.⁩

H.E Sheikh Fahim Bin Sultan Bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Member of the Sharjah executive council and chairman of the department of government relations in Sharjah. It was a privilege to gain insight from his extensive experience in diplomacy, and learn from his wisdom.

Every time I pass by the House of Wisdom @sharjahhow the landmark sculpture “THE SCROLL” always draws me in. There is something so captivating about its unique form rising upwards in one continuous flow.

And I kept thinking… what if I could translate that movement into Arabic calligraphy? The flowing stroke that rises just like the scroll itself.

So, I set up my easel right in front of it and brought that thought to life, creating a little conversation between architecture and calligraphy.

When architecture inspires the art and the art becomes part of the architecture.
