Happy anniversary @she_plusfive 14 years with all the ups and downs but still going strong. Could not have picked a better partner to do life with! In all her postpartum glory.
There is something so powerful and so beautiful about a woman who just birthed a human baby.

Whether this is your fist time or your sixth time:
I’d like to welcome you to your fourth trimester.

You may experience:
Exhaustion, fatigue, shame, rage, pain, inexplicable joy, enlarged leaky breasts, disgust, pride, so much blood, grief, anxiety, happiness, sadness, fear, love, hope, hunger, loneliness, and self-doubt.

You’ll have questions like:
How can a baby use this many diapers?
Am I a good mom?
Are they breathing?
Why is this so hard?
When will the baby stop crying?
Is it suppose to feel like this?
Why do I feel so alone?

The fourth trimester is a time of great physical and emotional change, and it can be incredibly hard for a lot of us.

As a mother of six,
I’d like to offer you my unsolicited advice:

Eat, sleep, feed your baby, and repeat!
Know that you are not alone. Remember that you are the best mom for your baby and that you’re doing a good job. You are doing the best that you can with what you have and that is enough. YOU are enough.

To our babies, we are the whole world, they know our heart and love us for who we are."

Lei è Brenda, vive in Georgia, negli Stati Uniti. Ogni domenica i genitori la portano in Chiesa, le trasmettono i valori cristiani. La madre ripete che il Signore ha un piano per tutti, bisogna affidarsi alle sue mani e lasciarsi guidare. Brenda non sa bene cosa significhi, ma quella frase la fa sentire protetta. È l’ottobre del 2009. Ha 23 anni. Legge un passo della Bibbia che le piace, vuole condividerlo con un amico che non sente da tempo. Prende il telefono, digita il numero e invia il messaggio. La risposta arriva subito. Amen, ma tu chi sei?

Brenda è offesa. Non ti ricordi di me? No, forse ha sbagliato numero. Brenda è mortificata, si scusa. Lo sconosciuto però attacca bottone. Si chiama Isaiah, vive parecchio lontano da lei, lavora, fa sport. Sembra una persona gentile e ottimista. Le scrive ogni giorno. Brenda risponde con piacere, è lusingata, ma anche spaventata. Non l’ha mai visto, l’ha conosciuto in un modo così assurdo. Come può fidarsi di lui?

In quel momento squilla in telefono. Brenda tentenna. Deve chiuderla lì, non può rischiare. Scatta la segreteria. La voce di Isaiah è dolce, autentica. Hey, mica avrai paura di me? Brenda guarda il cielo. Poi chiude gli occhi, e si lascia guidare. Parlano per ore, mesi, finché decidono di incontrarsi. Brenda trema. Isaiah la accoglie con un mazzo di fiori e un sorriso. Passeggiano sul fiume, visitano la casa in cui è cresciuto. Brenda cammina sulle nuvole. Non sa cosa stia succedendo, ma non vuole che finisca mai. Isaiah la prende per mano. Non voglio separarmi mai più da te. Si inginocchia, le porge un anello. Brenda alza gli occhi al cielo. Sorride.

Oggi Brenda e Isaiah sono sposati da dodici anni, hanno sei figli. Brenda non sa se sia stato il Signore, il destino, o il caso. Sa solo che è grata di aver sbagliato numero. Anzi, di aver fatto quello giusto.
