I’ll never understand how grief works. Ever. I’ve been extra teary for the past few days and not feeling like myself at all. I knew I needed to be alone because I wasn’t getting any work done at home, but also I needed to get back to center. Thankfully I was able to escape to the mountains to complete my to-do list and to figure out what was going on with my hormones. There’s something so healing about being surrounded by nature. I start FEELING again and am able to actually process those feelings. My emotional confusion starts to make sense while I’m hiking and feeling the cool breeze on my face. The sound of gravel beneath my feet acts as a therapist, and the silence a salve for my soul. It’s a sacred time for me and God to work it all out.

It was on a beautiful trail in the woods by a stream then it hit me. It has been ten years since one of my closest childhood friends passed away from breast cancer. A FULL DECADE. How is this possible? I realized right then and there that all of those confusing emotions and not feeling like myself was simply a masquerade. The real culprit was grief.

Grief remembers every detail even when you don’t want to. It knows the time of year that your world turned upside down and knows the exact moment your life changed forever. August 9th was that day for me. And my body knew before my head did.

I miss my friend more than I could ever express. I miss her laugh, her voice texts, her incessant need to know what was going on in my life and the way she called me “B” - a nickname that stuck from high school. It rips your heart apart to lose someone you love. We, as humans, have all experienced it on some level. But may we never forget that living life to the fullest is a choice. And embracing adventures and new experiences with our loved ones should not be optional.

If you are blessed enough to have amazing friends and/or family around, this is your sign to plan that trip. Start creating unforgettable memories that will outlast the people in them. Do not wait. Life in not a guarantee, it’s a gift.

Until next time…Make Every Day Count,
xoxo, Jamie 🥹🫶🏻

Loud, loyal and a little unhinged 😉 Nobody else I’d rather walk, Diet Coke, and eat my way through Savannah with. #fcforever
