Outside of a box of crayons, photography has definitely been my longest creative thread. Not so much video at first. I originally started cutting up project footage because the algorithm made it crystal clear that if I wanted the work to reach people, that was part of the deal.

Somewhere along the way, though, something shifted. I realized I genuinely loved doing it.

What started as documenting projects turned into its own creative outlet. Cutting up footage became kind of a digital fidget spinner for me, my thumb’s go to instead of doom scrolling. I’ll tinker with edits while waiting in line or killing time, mix in audio, scrap whole sequences, start over, usually make little films no one ever sees, just because I enjoy the process.

Because I shoot on my phone, the process often starts with just setting up a lens and getting to work. Once I hit record, checking my phone ruins the shot, so for stretches of time it disappears. No notifications, no scrolling, no distractions. Just me, Spotify, and the process. I don’t say this out loud much, but filming has actually helped me be more present while making.

And that has felt oddly hard to admit, because I hear so many creatives talk about “having to make content” like it’s a necessary evil, while I’m over here genuinely having fun with it. For a long time I worried about posting too much or seeming spammy / content-y.. like, enjoying this part too openly somehow made it less authentic.

But the truth is, I love making things, and sometimes the thing is the object itself, and sometimes the thing is the story you build around it.

So I’m leaning into that more. Sharing more. Probably In and out of the shop, random, still for fun. because I enjoy it. and If it helps the work travel farther or leads to meeting more people, that’s noice too.

For the past few years, my buddies Bryan and Andrew have organized raffles and auctions in April benefiting a special needs school here in Florida to go along with April being autism acceptance month.. here’s some stills of the pieces I made for this year’s Makers for a Cause raffle.

For the tray, I revisited an approach I’d experimented with before, casting solid acrylic blocks first, then carving the piece out of them rather than pouring directly into a mold.. That cross cut reveals dramatic shifts in the cells and color movement, almost crystal or mineral like formations hidden inside the pour. I carried a transparent infinity symbol all the way through the tray to represent the infinite variation, strengths, and perspectives within neurodiversity..

For the coasters and caddy, I took a ‘quieter’ approach.. still plenty of motion, but slowed down. Muted tones, matte finish paired with leopard wood. It may seem subtle.. but, I put a lot of thought into the internal design of the coasters, using curved sides that bow away from the flat sides of the puzzle piece, with straight edges set against the curved tabs.. I dug it. I carried the puzzle cutout into the cork lining of the caddy. Tried to be a little warmer, a little more ‘grounded’.. Different, not less.

…made a coaster caddy out of “scraps” of acrylic.

Had an idea that it could be cool to carry that same four-color blend into something to hold the coasters and tie the whole build together.

I’ve had to do a lot of fiberglass work over the last few weeks, so after each coat, I started saving the leftover resin, splitting it into four, adding pigment, and building new layers. Since that process had me sanding and reapplying multiple times a day, I was able to stack a bunch of small pours. Ended up creating some really cool little cells and movement along the sides.

This caddy, along with the coasters and tray, are up on there with a bunch of other really cool pieces.
