Creative community is something most people in the so-called “creative industries” often take for granted. But here in Namibia where there are many creative people but not much of an “industry” or a “creative community” it’s not such a familiar idea. So why is creative community so important?? 👇👇👇👇

1️⃣ Mentorship. We need people to ask questions of, who take the time to introduce us to other people, and help guide us from their experience.

2️⃣ Role Models. Distinct from mentors, you don’t necessarily know your role models personally or closely, but they are people who you can relate to. In other words sometimes “you need to see it to be it”. Especially in a place like Namibia, role models are incredibly important because most people have limited exposure to a variety of careers and creative pathways.

3️⃣ Your team: you need cheerleaders and people who believe in you and what you do. But who can also help make you stronger and better when you can be.

4️⃣ Exposure to Failure: in many cultures (Namibia included) of the world, failure can feel like a dirty word. But to be an entrepreneur, an artist, a designer, or for virtually any creative pursuit, failure IS the path. Being around people who have also failed - maybe failed a LOT - helps you realize failure will not end you. In fact, failure may set you free. Keep going.

The Gathering is all about community. It’s a full day of Indaba style talks by 20 of Namibia’s most creative business people, designers, artists, makers and storytellers. April 19 in Swakopmund.

Tickets & sponsored seat applications available on www.togathernamibia.com

Tag your community. Bring them along. They need you.
