*Gateway to infinity*

Scrolling through all the images from my latest trip to Greece, with their more elaborate foregrounds and compositions, it’s the last one — a very minimal image — I want to show you first.

The sheer beauty of 'land’s end'. Turquoise waters, seemingly still. The Milky Way reflected in the sea.

Like a gateway to infinity.

Ευχαριστώ για όλα, Κάρπαθος. Thank you, Karpathos, for your pristine skies, I'll carry with me.

Milky Way over Kasos, Greece. Can you find Antares?

Kasos sits at the far southern edge of the Aegean, between Crete and Karpathos. Small, quiet, and properly dark.

Shot with Sony A7IV (astro-modified), 14mm f1.8.

Stack of x10 13s exposures.

Milky Way Rising Above Tufas

It’s been a while since I photographed the Milky Way and even longer since I have processed any Milky Way images. I was inspired by my friend @enji_chung to get out there.

The conditions were favorable during my recent trip to the Sierra Nevada: clear skies, early moonset and the final days of a visible galactic core. However, the core would only be visible for just over 30 minutes before sinking behind the mountains.

I am sure I looked like a crazed photographer trying to find the best comp, shifting as the core got lower, etc., etc.

I love Mono Lake and the tufas - they are so unique and interesting! Tufa (tuft, calc-tuff or tophus) is a variety of limestone formed when carbonate minerals precipitate out of water in unheated rivers or lakes.

A few nights in the Alabama Hills, a whole lot of stars, and a brand-new astro-modified Nikon Z8 perfectly done by @spencerscamera.

Basically, I took my new camera out into the desert to see just how much trouble we could get into together 😂

The Milky Way did not disappoint. Neither did the company—ridiculously fun nights shooting alongside @riptydphoto and @mchuphotography, with plenty of camera nerding, questionable sleep schedules, and the kind of skies that make you forget you have to work in the morning.

The Z8 and I are officially getting acquainted… and I think this relationship is going to be a good one. I am still so impressed by being able to autofocus on the stars 😵

Alabama Hills, you beautiful little slice of desert magic, thank you for never disappointing me ❤️
