It would be easy to assume that the pair behind @shopneighbour and @neighbourwoman live accordingly, with the same controlled deliberateness, the same editorial eye trained on every corner of their lives. That the details extend seamlessly, from the shop floor to the dinner table. That everything is considered, curated, quietly perfect. And in a way it is, but more interestingly, it isn’t, quite.

Join us for a 4-hour workshop led by Ted Rogers; a day to move, breathe, and get into the mess and beauty of the body. Expect poetic, physical, and deeply felt movement rooted in contemporary dance, improvisation, and personal exploration.
 
This is for anyone curious about dance as a way of connecting to themselves, to others and to what’s moving underneath it all.

Yesterday's dance workshop @tkestudios was an absolute stonker!!

I am always taken back by how much everyone brings to the table.

A room of almost entirely non-professional dancers come together and gives themselves to this process.

They embrace my abstraction. My strange emotional cues. My requests to enter unknown worlds.

Yesterday was durgy and sludgy and ecstatic and angry and wild.

Thank you all for the laughter and the joy.

To spending time shaking down and learning something new.

Thank you to everyone who attended my solo-show "Vocal Rest" at the amazing @scrap_margate. I am so grateful and overwhelmed by the support, you all really showed up, and on Pride weekend! Very special.

Storytime for the readers 👇

Moving from London to Margate four years ago was quite a culture shock for me. I always found comfort in the anonymity that being a citizen of London offered. Margate, however, is different and special for so many other reasons. I’ve begun to understand what it’s like to be in a community again since leaving my hometown in 2010.

Communities like Margate are fuelled and enriched by the quiet conversations we share with the people we build relationships with. This show is the beginning of an exploration into the culture surrounding the interpersonal dynamics rooted in the information we choose to share or withhold about others and ourselves.

As my practice continues to evolve, I wanted to challenge myself to create without folding myself up into the usual boxes I've popped out of over the years. So the works exhibited are more paintings and sculptures, something newer for me that I eager to incorporate into my practice as life moves.

I will do more posts for the individual pieces created with a little bit more info –when possible – as the weeks go on. More information available on my website if you want to see more detailed images of the artworks.

Recently, Sheila and I decided to take some portraits of me dancing.

The longer I have danced the more I have struggled trying to capture something that doesn't feel trite.

To me the idea of taking dance stills feels so indulgent and annoying.

I have grown thorny bits and dislikes from a lifetime of engagement in this artform.

I have seen and seen and seen.

Yet it is a relationship I continue to engage in. A relationship that continues to soften me and show me new discoveries and unfoldings.

I learn something new everytime.

So in my attempts to avoid looking like a contemporary dancer - I think I very much look like a contemporary dancer here.

And I love these photos.

There are more to come by the way.

And I think they are indulgent and classical and brutalist and modern.

Thank you @sheilalam for simply being. Your perspective is so valuable.
