Last night 165 members of the Abergavenny community, gathered in the Victorian market hall. The event was called One Big Table, an event put on by a bunch of local folk who all volunteered their time, skills and love to the community. It was indeed, one Big Table!

There was live music, bar with local artisan drinks, arts and crafts at the table, families, friends and food! So much of the incredible ingredients and props were donated by local businesses. It was an absolute pleasure to feed the community in this way. The air miles on the menu was virtually nill, the local produce so good, that I wanted to let it shine without overcomplicating it.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing people round a table together, sharing food, pouring drinks and laughing. Community, family, friends, strangers ❤️ Kids running around, elderly doing crafts, strangers passing plates. That’s what it’s all about.

I didn’t get a chance to get any pictures of the food on the night, but I cooked the same menu at home so we could enjoy it as a family.

Placemat shows the businesses that contributed in some way, but doesn’t show the long list of amazing volunteers who worked so hard, meetings, planning, WhatsApp groups and phone calls. It could not have happened without the immense efforts of all the volunteers and donations from local businesses.

Love this town and love what community can do ❤️

Rain and shine, we had SUCH a good time at The Big Retreat festival, Cambridgeshire. I am now spoiled for all other camping thanks to @woodvilleproject and possibly all other festivals thanks to @thebigretreatfestival And thank you to @kindcomms_ without whom I might not have known it existed. See you next year. #wellnessfestival

Back in Utopia @shambalafest (ad) we are back in our fave place! And It took him approximately 0.3 seconds to slip back into festival mode. @shepherdsicecream Ice cream all over his face, dancing his way through the festival and zero concern for what time he’s going to bed 😂

Massive shoutout to @shepherdsicecream 🍦👏

I popped in this morning to ask if their ice cream was gluten free, and honestly, their response was outstanding.

Not only is their ice cream gluten free, but they asked whether it was an allergy and offered to get ice cream from a fresh tub to avoid the risk of cross contamination. 🙌

And if that wasn’t enough… they also have gluten free cones! 🍦😍

The lady serving me was so helpful and genuinely didn’t make it feel like a problem at all.

For anyone living with coeliac disease, that kind of attitude makes such a difference. ❤️

It was honestly so refreshing to have someone take gluten free seriously without making you feel like you’re being a nuisance.

This is how it should be done. 👏

Slave to the stats.

You’ve packed a real fruity coffee to brew back at the tent and a kinto flask to keep it toasty. Your organised and efficient nature means you are the one who set up the GM26 WhatsApp group, and you’re not shy to drop 3, maybe 4, messages in a row.

Your step count and protein intake are still top priority, even though you say “it’s chill” 😅

We’re not like regular parents; we’re cool parents.

Armed with plenty of coffee (you need it) and a couple of fancy beers, you’re ready to drag a buggy full of kids around all weekend. By the end of the night, it’s unclear if the bubbles are for you or the children.

You’re livid that Melin Melyn aren’t on the lineup this year 😤

You’ve done it before; you know the score.

You’ve been to Green Man at least 5 times now. You know what you like to eat, what you like to drink, you know how to get around, and you know exactly where you want to sit or stand at every stage. You know so many people at the festival; you’ll stop to say hello if you’re in the right mood.

A wooden mushroom is your talisman, and Clashfinder is God 🍄

Makin friends and makin memories.

You just love the vibes at festivals. The Healing Area is your safe space, and a tarot reading is a must. Your fringed T is the perfect conversation starter because you are here to make some festival besties.

Disposable camera on hand; you’re going to capture all the good times… even if you can’t remember who anyone is once you get the pics developed 🤪

Here for a good time, not a long time.

This is your time to let your hair down. Coffee Liqueur keeps you partying all night long, and Pot Noodles are essential for lining the stomach. You are never seen without your sunglasses, even if it’s dark and raining.

You only find the paracetamol when you’re packing down the tent on Monday morning. You also wish you’d booked Tuesday off work 🙈

And then there’s Emily.

Her individual adventure looked rather different again. She came with us to explore Hay-on-Wye.

Shops and cafés? Absolutely fabulous. Emily takes them in her tiny stride and, unsurprisingly, everyone loves her.

Busy traffic and walking on a loose lead when there is lots happening around her are still harder. So this was a lovely opportunity to explore together while giving her the support she needed.

She did brilliantly.

And when the environment became a little too much, she communicated that she needed help. So up she came.

One of the joys of having a tiny dog.

There is something important in that too. Supporting our dogs does not mean they have to manage every situation independently. Sometimes good training is recognising when they are coping beautifully, and sometimes it is recognising when they have had enough.

Listening when they ask for help builds safety and trust. We can always put the training back in when they have the capacity for it.

Emily got to explore Hay, practise the things she is still learning, enjoy all the things she already finds easy, and hitch a lift when she needed one.

Exactly what her individual time should be.

My first visit to Hay-on-Wye, just the not-so-subtle shove back into reading that I needed 🫶 we bought 10 books between us, could have quite happily bought double that!
