The most beautiful toilet… which has bizarrely become a tourist attraction 🤣

🖼️ @thesherborne is a beautiful art gallery, cafe and restaurant — and absolutely well worth a visit especially to spend a penny 🤣🎨🍽️

Sherborne is such a lovely place to have a day out in Dorset and is easily accessible by train.

🏯Sherborne Old Castle @englishheritage — the atmospheric ruins of the 12th-century castle, with lovely countryside views and grounds that are good for a wander and picnic. It’s managed by English Heritage and currently lists free entry.

🏯Sherborne Castle & Gardens @sherbornecastle — the “new” castle, built in 1594, with beautiful Capability Brown landscape gardens. 🚶‍♀️There are two suggested garden walks: approximately 2.1 km and 1.6 km, which can be combined.

⛪️Sherborne Abbey — absolutely worth visiting for its spectacular fan-vaulted ceiling and fascinating history. In 2025 they had the spectacular Gaia exhibition.

🌿Castle Gardens — the garden centre near Sherborne Castle, ideal for plants, gifts and a browse after your walk.

🌿 THE COUNTRYSIDE DOESN’T CURE ME… BUT IT HELPS ME HEAL 🌿

Sometimes the noise of life becomes overwhelming.

Not just the noise around us, but the noise inside us too.the fear, the uncertainty, the unanswered questions and the thoughts that grow louder when the world becomes quiet.

But then I step into the countryside.

I hear birds singing from the trees, leaves whispering in the breeze and water making its timeless journey over stones. I see sunlight breaking through the branches and wildflowers growing wherever they choose and somehow, for a little while, the chaos begins to make sense.

Nature never asks me to explain why I am struggling.

It doesn’t judge the oxygen tubes on my face, the cylinder on my back or the number of times I need to stop and catch my breath. It simply welcomes me exactly as I am.

When I was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, I knew that my life had changed forever. This progressive and incurable disease continues to take things from me my breath, my strength, my independence and some of the future I once imagined.

There are days when that truth feels unbearably heavy.

But my diagnosis did not take away my ability to love.

It did not take away my curiosity, my determination or my need to feel the earth beneath my feet. It did not take away the beauty of a sunrise, the peace of an ancient woodland or the joy of discovering somewhere new.

And it certainly did not take away the extraordinary woman walking beside me.

My beautiful wife, Cara, makes these adventures possible. She carries far more than equipment and spare oxygen cylinders she carries my fears, encourages me when my body wants to give up and quietly gives me the confidence to keep living.

She is my strength when mine begins to fade, my safe place when life feels frightening and my constant reminder that I never have to face this journey alone.

Our adventures may look different now. They are slower, carefully planned and punctuated by rests, oxygen changes and moments when I simply have to sit down.

But slowing down has taught me to notice things I once might have hurried past.#pulmonaryfibrosis #life #hope #journey #nature

“Sometimes courage looks like carrying on. Sometimes it looks like sitting down.”

Sometimes I feel cheated by pulmonary fibrosis by lungs that have stolen pieces of my freedom and changed the future Cara and I imagined sharing.

Today, we visited Sherborne Castle and Gardens. I packed two oxygen cylinders, determined to have another adventure with my wife and create another precious memory.

But my body simply would not play ball.

Despite eight litres of oxygen, my levels were in the low eighties. I sat beside the magnificent lake, fighting breathlessness, panic and the terrifying sensation of suffocation.

For a while, I simply sat and breathed.

Then I looked at the map and made a different plan one built around benches, rest stops and whatever my body could safely manage.

That is something illness teaches you: when the original journey becomes impossible, you do not have to surrender the entire day.

Sometimes you simply redraw the route.

Slowly, Cara and I explored what we could before reaching the café for a well-earned coffee and slice of cake.

From the outside, it probably looked like a peaceful day out. Inside, I was exhausted, dizzy and painfully aware that I had pushed too far.

But I had seen the lake.

I had felt the sunlight.

I had shared another adventure with Cara.

I had lived another little piece of my life.

Sadly, the castle ruins were beyond my reach. A shuttle bus or accessible buggy, like those available at Dyrham Park and Tyntesfield, would have been life-changing.

Accessibility is not about special treatment. It is about giving people with disabilities, chronic illnesses and limited mobility the opportunity to experience the same beauty, history and joy as everyone else.

Sometimes the difference between staying home and making a precious memory is simply a short lift in a buggy.

Life can be unfair, painful and frightening. It can change our plans and bring us to our knees without warning.

But even from our knees, we can still look up and see the sky.

Everything that hurts is real but everything beautiful is real ❤️
Stay strong
Dave ❤️

What a day! 🙌 Sherborne Classic & Supercars 2026 was one to remember, with a record-breaking year, an incredible atmosphere and an amazing selection of cars on display 🚗😎

Even better knowing it was all in support of some brilliant causes.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s show what it was. Here’s a little look back at an incredible day! 🏎️
