STEAMY LIT CON 2025 RECAP | Oct 30 & 31

Steamy Lit Con @steamylitcon was everything I hoped it would be and more! And it started off in the most perfect way possible 😍

Upon arriving at the hotel for the Forced Proximity party on Thursday night, I immediately ran into a group of authors, many of whom I recognized. I introduced myself to @susanleewrites, who I had previously chatted with online, and she gave me such a warm welcome and started introducing me to the other authors, including @alihazelwood and Lauren Billings (of @christinalauren)! I was met with refrains of, “THIS is Romancing the Data!” It was so surreal for authors that I’ve admired from afar to know who I was!! 🤩

We headed to the Forced Proximity party, which was lovely but flew by way too fast! A highlight was chatting with @adibkhorram and discovering our Vancouver connection, which lead to trading recommendations of great restaurants in the city. 🍽️ Another highlight was chatting with Canadian authors @noreennanjawrites and @aurorapalit 🇨🇦

Friday started with breakfast and a keynote panel on the 2025 State of the Union in the Romance Industry. I then attended two breakout panels, one about Monster Romance and the other about Love and Disability. Lots of laughs during the monster romance panel and a surprise group singalong led by @melissa_whitneyauthor at the love and disability panel! 🎶

I also checked out the @audible Swoon Room, which was playing the new audiobook release of Pride & Prejudice and set up for attendees to send love letters to loved ones via snail mail. I put three stamps on mine just to be on the safe side and I’m happy to report that it DID arrive back home in Canada yesterday! 💌

I got to meet some fellow Magnificent Firebirds 🐦‍🔥 from the @fatedmatespod Discord Group in real life too 😁

That night I attended the Halloween party dressed as Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King 🎃. Through the magic of the Steamy Lit Con Facebook Group, I knew my Pumpkin Queen Sally (aka @sherellws) would be there! Thank you for being my partner in crime that night!

And that's a wrap on my first-ever @steamylitcon & @romancingthecraft!

I know what you're thinking: "Julian, why didn't you take any photos while you were there?!"
Look I have an Android -- you didn't want to see that! But thankfully so many great people got pics of me with their better cameras 😜

I have to thank @bookrecsbymel, @cookie.the.bookee, and the entire @steamylitbookstore for putting together such an amazingly inclusive and fun event. Thanks to @ladriana_herrera and Romancing the Craft for creating a space that invites thought, love, spice, authenticity, and butter! My deepest appreciation to the volunteers who worked tirelessly all week. The epic @meetcutebookshop for providing books and smiles. All the authors who stayed up way too late and got up way too early! You make every moment worth it.

And most importantly... THE READERS!! Y'all filled every room and corner with your hunger for romance books, happily ever afters, and plenty of spice. I can't thank you each enough for the hugs, laughs, and mutual swooning.

Day 1 of my first ever Advent series! Inspired by my beautiful friend, @sherellws whose advent reviews you should go check out. Like a lot of people, first I'll be reviewing the @typologyparis calendar for 2024 and I am so bummed not to provide a more detailed review, but the first product is one i already use daily! The D31 9-Ingredient Soothing Serum is not new for me to try, but I do love the way this feels on my skin everyday and it's very good for me since I have some redness and inflammation. Check it out if you are looking for a super lightweight serum you can use mornings or evenings.

As for tea, this year I'll be joining Sherell and many others as we do #CelestialSips from @riddleteashoppe! I wasn't able to make it home in time for my first tea (check out Sherell's video!) but I did have a fandom inspired tea blend from @teaandabsinthe to try that I received during their visit at NYCC: a Blue Milk-inspired tea that is Halcyon Starcruiser themed. Unfortunately, it just didn't go blue when I added my plant milk - and I even steeped it the recommended time, so it must not have had enough blue-activating ingredients. Maybe on my next brew? I have some left.

I'll also be traveling during a lot of this Advent filming so bear with me and let's hope that I'm able to do everything I need to do to not miss a day!
