When the Muse Returned

She returned
with the face
he had carried through his youth.

He waited for his heart
to recognize her.

Once, her smile on a screen
could keep him awake till morning.
He would leave the café
with a whole life beside him—
her hand in his,
a city neither of them knew.

Now she sat across the table.
She took off her coat.
Asked if he had eaten.

He said yes.
Then remembered he had not.

Outside, rain gathered
on the window.
He watched a drop descend
while she searched his face.

“You’re quiet.”

“I thought I would have
so much to say.”

She smiled,
and he felt the old habit
of waiting for something
to begin.

Nothing did.

For a moment he grieved
the boy who should have been there—
who would have trembled
when she said his name,
who had rehearsed this meeting
in rooms she would never see.

“Have I come too late?”
she asked.

He looked at her hands
resting beside the cup.

“I don’t know,” he said.
“I’ve been tired
for a long time.”

She stayed.

The tea cooled.
A waiter cleared
the empty tables around them.

At last she asked
if he wanted to walk.

He reached for his coat.

There were no stars
when they stepped outside.
Only rain,
and her waiting beneath the awning.

He stood beside her
and, for once,
had no idea
what happened next.

.Bukowski said the world doesn't need more poets.

Maybe he said it because he was a great poet who bled for every line and suffered his whole life. When poetry costs you that much, you stop wishing it on anyone.

But he was wrong.

Poetry was never just ink.
It's the umbrella you hand a stranger in the rain.
The coffee you pay for without being asked.
The hand you hold at 3 a.m. when someone is too scared to sleep.

Lennon understood that. He let the world call him a dreamer, and he spent his life asking the rest of us to dream with him.

So this is my answer to Bukowski:

The world needs more poets.
Not the ones who write. The ones who show up.

Love is never a weakness.
Kindness is never a weakness.

Go write your poem.

Tell me in the comments: what's the kindest thing a stranger ever did for you?

Every legend you admire was called delusional first.

The laughing stops when the work starts showing.

Keep going until they bow. 👑

Drop a 🔥 if they're still laughing at yours.

Mediabluebirds.thank you for reading the first two chapters and sending such thoughtful feedback. Knowing the tone and the bond between Ashok and Mira are landing means a lot.

Writing feels like talking into the dark, until someone writes back.

If you've started Return of the Poet, tell me: What stayed with you? Where did I lose you? What could be better? Criticism is as welcome as praise.

DM me "FEEDBACK." Everyone who does gets my next book free, as thanks for your time, whatever your verdict. 🖤

Three books. One restless mind.

By day I write about technology. By night I write about people. These three came out of the nights.

1. 📖 Between Two Trains: The Butterfly Effect
You missed a train once and told yourself it didn't matter. It did. This is the story of one question on one platform, and a life that split open because someone asked it.

2. 🌙 Return of the Poet (Book One of the Trinity Universe)
Poets don't die. They go quiet, and quiet things come back. Three forces, one point where they meet, and one man walking straight toward it.

💧 One Hundred Drops in a Sea
A hundred haiku, three lines at a time, with no wasted words. Every ocean started as one drop, and one of these will stay with you.

Haiku for when you have ten seconds.
A novel for when you have a weekend.
A universe for when you're ready to disappear.

You don't pick a book. It picks you.

Comment 1, 2 or 3 and tell me which one found you first.

Save this. Send it to the reader who needs it tonight.
