June Fairyloot 3-book combo ✨

I KNOW! I’m so late on posting this one 😅 In my defense, I filmed this video before leaving for vacation and then promptly forgot to edit it and then my son broke his leg, so I think I have a good excuse for being late 😂

Anywaaaays, look at these books!! 😍 I think The Unicorn Hunters is my new favorite Fairyloot special edition because how could it not be?! The artistry of these books always blows me away!

YA: Shadow Reaper by Lynette Noni
Adult: The Unicorn Hunters by Katherine Arden
Romantasy: The Assassin’s Way by J.M. Kearl

🦄 Legends 🦄

The @fairyloot adult book for June was The Unicorn Hunters by @arden_katherine

What is particularly special about this edition is, along with being beautiful, this is actually longer than the regular book. It has extra scenes and has been described as the ‘directors cut’ of the book which is really interesting.

This is my first Katharine Arden book, even though I have some of her others on my tbr, and I’m really enjoying this.

If you saw a mythical creature in the wild, what would you do? 👀 Or, what mythical creature would you love to read about more often?

In an ideal scenario where we’re both just minding our own business, I would probably be so in awe that I would just stare. 😂

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with unicorns. 🦄 If I have, it’s been a while! THE UNICORN HUNTERS by @arden_katherine sounds sounds like it’s going to be amazing. A secret marriage, rival courts, faerie magic and mischief, and, of course, a unicorn!

This is the gorgeous @fairyloot edition featuring an exclusive redesigned and foiled cover by @jasonchuangart with design by @lydiablagden, full-color foiled artwork on the hardcover by @sheydgarden with design by @lydiablagden, and foiled character artwork on the endpapers by @annalisejensen.

Have you read this one yet? 📖 I’m a sucker for a historical fantasy, so I can’t wait to dive in!

✨Special Edition Saturday✨
QOTD: do you care about the design of the naked hardback or just the dustjacket is enough? 📚

I genuinely can’t decide which version has my heart, the redesigned cover is absolutely stunning but once you pull it off and see the naked hardback?? Drop-dead gorgeoussss!! I don’t know why people wouldn’t like this @fairyloot edition of The Unicorn Hunters by @arden_katherine and @centurybooksuk because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a book that matched my vibe more and the whole design team did such a great job 🤩

In The Unicorn Hunters we meet Anne of Brittany who’s on that would cost her both her freedom and her kingdom. Desperate to change her fate, she stages a unicorn hunt as the perfect cover for a secret political alliance. The only tiny problem? Unicorns aren’t supposed to exist anymore… until one actually appears, opening the door to an ancient world of forgotten magic, dangerous myths, enchanted forests, and impossible choices. Historical fantasy with unicorns? I am sat!!

Add this one to your TBR if you love:
🦄 Mythical creatures that are more than just pretty window dressing
👑 Powerful women fighting for their kingdom
🌲 Enchanted forests full of ancient magic
⚔️ Political intrigue and secret alliances
✨ Historical fantasy inspired by real events
💚 Lyrical, atmospheric writing that sweeps you off your feet

A huge thank you to @tales.and.talons for making it possible to add this beauty to my collection!! 🥹 I already know this is going to look incredible on my shelves, and I’m even more excited that I’ll get to read it this month for the upcoming edition of our book club at @drukkerijmiddelburg. I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks 🥰

The June Adult box from @fairyloot is here! 🦄

The Unicorn Hunters by Kathrine Arden sounds like such a magical read, mixing history, myths, and a touch of magic. I’ve never read anything by her before, so this feels like the perfect introduction.

I keep seeing this book described as “enchanting” everywhere, and have high hopes.

Have any of you read her books before? 👀

blurb:
Anne of Brittany was a child when her land was invaded, her castle besieged, and her royal father driven to his death.

Now Brittany is occupied by her enemies, her treasury empty, and only one thing is lacking to complete her realm’s subjugation: she is required, on pain of the sword, to marry the King of France.

But Anne cannot. She has promised her dead father that Brittany would never be conquered.

Defiantly, she betroths herself in secret to France’s greatest enemy. But in a world where courts may spy on each other by magic, there is only one way to solemnize this illicit union.

Under the guise of a hunting party, Anne takes her court deep into a deep forest, a strange place dogged with rumours of ancient enchantments; a place where diviners cannot see. She tells the French that she had gone there to hunt unicorns.

It’s a ruse, a lie, a feint.

But when, against all expectations, a unicorn does appear and a wounded stranger stumbles from the trees and falls at her feet, Anne is plunged into a world of enchantment where a doomed sovereign might find the power to change the destiny of her nation - or be lost in the mist for ever.

The latest addition to my special edition hoard and officially the last book I purchased second hand in resale before starting my book buying ban over a week ago 🥲
(Don't worry, the ban doesn't include my own FL subscription or Kindle Unlimited subscription... I'm not that strong 😂)

I've seen so many copies of this edition being resold for super cheap (I paid $45) because a lot of people don't seem to like the redesign... but as a medieval loving girly, I am absolutely OBSESSED 😍 I think all the artist's involved did an amazing job!

I may have bought it purely for the gorgeous artwork rather than the story itself, but I'm sure I'll actually read it at some point

On another note, I'm seriously considering cancelling my FL YA Merch subscription indefinitely. The picks aren't very varied anymore, often being repeated themed books and the dream of having a rainbow shelf won't happen with all the purples/blues that we're recieving and it's become so easy to pick up the books (and even the merch) second hand, typically for less than what I'm paying each month especially now with access to Vinted 😩 That said though, I'd then lose Early Access, and that's literally the reason I resubscribed in the first place after my UK trip last year 🫣 so I don't know what to do 😮‍💨
