Good comfortable shoes are like gold, especially when they are beautiful and elegant as well. I am a big fan of @aquazzura and have this in various colours and materials and still can't get enough of this shoe. These are today's new additions, having been attacked by a dog and having to have my hands strapped up I figured it is important that my feet look and feel good.

Dear Daniel, so happy that we met, thanks to @jocope_studio and the Shoes Have Names project in 2022 in Hasselt.

You were so sweet, so talented, so eager to learn everything about shoes and it was so nice to make you happy and proud when your first shoe made it into the VirtualShoeMuseum & Workman Publishing NY shoes calendars, years ago… with many editions and many shoe designs after that. We will always remember you and treasure your unique shoes, dedication and fabulous skills ❤️

Daniel Charkow/Shoe Man Dan (2000 -2024)

Canadian shoe designer and shoemaker, rising star in the shoe industry. His appreciation for hand-tooling and sustainability are key features in his designs. Inspired by Lady Gaga’s fierce fashion and bold choices, he created his first shoe at the age of twelve. Falling in love with the art, Daniel pursued shoemaking at the Art and Sole Academy in Toronto under the guidance of master instructor Jennifer Alison.

Charkow has interned with many brands including Steve Madden, Aldo, Ron White, John Fluevog and Mellow Walk. Each of these internships has helped Daniel learn the complexities of the shoe industry. Daniel graduated in shoe design at the London College of Fashion in 2023. Worked for as junior designer at Sophia Webster in London, Ontario.

Alice Hawkins plaque unveiled in my hometown of Leicester today!

She worked at the Equity Shoe Factory where she experienced poor working conditions and unequal pay for women. Alice Hawkins was the First secretary of the Leicester branch of the Women’s Social and Political Union. #internationalwomensday

The significance of the image on the handkerchief goes far beyond this modest embroidered object. Its beauty belies the women’s struggle and suffering whilst revealing their bond with the embroidered word.

Invited by designer Jo Cope, ten designers set to work with stories of people who are, or were fighting homelessness. What are their hopes, which steps can they still take and which do they still want to take? Hence, Cope chose shoes as a metaphor, functioning as symbolic instruments for social activism. ⁠

I co-curated this exhibition together with @thoelenannelies and @rummensmarnix 💙💗

The world turns increasingly pluriverse. How can we, without losing ourselves, become part of a larger entity? That question forms the starting point of the group exhibition Fitting In. Artists and designers show how lavish our context can be, if we are open to the many voices around us. They understand identities as multi-layered or fluid. In conversation with you they explore the boundaries between fashion, visual art, photography, design and the world.
