It’s been one month since we officially wrapped up Project Tutored Bayelsa 2026, and honestly, it still feels so fresh.
Beyond the numbers and the activities, what has stayed with us the most are the people. The children who showed up excited to learn, the volunteers who gave their time, and the parents and well-wishers who constantly encouraged us and reminded us why programmes like this matter. So, one month later, we’re taking a moment to reminisce through some of the things parents and well-wishers had to say about their experience with Project Tutored.

Listening their words again has made us even more grateful for the opportunity to serve and for everyone who contributed to making this edition possible.
And yes, we miss our kids dearly. Their energy, questions, laughter and personalities became such a big part of our everyday lives during those four weeks.

Project Tutored Bayelsa 2026 may be over, but the memories, lessons and impact continue.
Thank you to everyone who was a part of it. 🤍

Day 10 & 11 : Barbing

We started the session with a few games to get the students active and ready for the day. We also distributed notepads generously provided by @teesandessentials , which the students will be using to take notes and document what they learn throughout the programme.

The main focus of the session was barbing. Over the course of two days, the students were introduced to the basics of barbing, including the tools, how they are used, and some of the basic techniques involved. It was great seeing them get involved, ask questions and practise what they were taught. Another skill learned, another experience gained.

A special thank you to @teesandessentials for providing these notepads and supporting our students. We truly appreciate your contribution to Project Tutored. 💙

One of the biggest changes we made to Project Tutored this year was also one of the most challenging.
Last year, the programme was designed for young people between the ages of 13–18. This year, we decided to take a chance and open it up to children as young as 8 years old, while keeping the upper age limit at 18.

We knew going in that teaching an 8-year-old and teaching an 18-year-old are two very different experiences. The pace, attention spans, communication and learning needs are different, and honestly, there were moments that tested us.
But there was something incredibly special about having the younger ones in the room.

They came with so much energy, curiosity and excitement. They asked questions without hesitation, celebrated the smallest wins, encouraged one another and brought a kind of joy that changed the atmosphere of the entire programme.
It also reminded us why we started Project Tutored in the first place, to give young people access to practical skills, exposure and experiences that can shape how they see themselves and what they believe is possible for them.

Project Tutored is growing, and we’re learning alongside the children too.

DAY 8 & 9 : GRAPHIC DESIGN

For Days 8 and 9, the children were introduced to the basics of graphic design by @merit.dagana. They learned some of the fundamental tools and principles and then put what they learned into practice.
Each group was given the opportunity to create their own poster, working together to decide what they wanted to communicate and how they wanted their designs to look. It was a simple but practical way for them to understand that graphic design is not just about making something look good, but also about communicating an idea clearly.

For our younger participants, the Kiddies Templates by @studio.ogboso o my provided fun activities that kept them engaged while the older kids worked on their designs.

It was two days of learning, experimenting, making mistakes, trying again and, most importantly, creating something they could call their own.

DAY 7 : SWIMMING LESSONS

Today, we took learning to the pool.
The kids got to cool off, get comfortable in the water, and learn the basics of swimming from floating and kicking to moving through the water with more confidence.

Some were excited from the start, some were a little nervous, and some just wanted to play but everyone got involved.
It was a simple, fun day, but the skills they picked up are ones they can carry with them for a long time.

Day 6: Ice cream & fun!

Our students learned how to make homemade ice cream using the Ziplock bag method in a fun, hands-on class facilitated by the Bayelsa State Coordinator, @shotsswitem . They discovered how a few simple ingredients and a little science can come together to create a delicious treat. Watching their excitement as the mixture transformed into ice cream was definitely one of the highlights of the day.
To make the day even sweeter, we shared chocolates and chocolate milk before taking a break for games. Charades had everyone laughing, working together, and showing off their creativity, proving that learning also happens through play.

After enjoying lunch together, we wrapped up another memorable day filled with curiosity, teamwork, and plenty of smiles.

Day 5: Tie & Dye Reveal

After creating their tie-dye designs on Day 2 with @aru_by_fibi , our students finally got to see the results of their hard work. They carefully rinsed, washed, and air-dried their fabrics, learning that patience and proper finishing are just as important as the dyeing process itself.
Watching each unique pattern come to life was such a rewarding moment. No two pieces were the same, and every fabric reflected the creativity and personality of its maker.

This is only the beginning. We can’t wait to show you how these beautiful fabrics will be transformed in the coming days.

Day 4 : Nails pt 2
After learning about the basic tools and equipment in the previous class, the students had the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice. With the consent of their parents, they worked on their own nails, learning proper handling of tools and basic nail preparation techniques.
The students also worked in groups to create different nail designs on their mannequins, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and confidence as they practiced. To end the session on a fun note, they joined their tutor, Miss Juliet @nails_by__zino_bayelsa, for a few TikTok videos, creating memorable moments after a productive day of learning.

It was another engaging session, and we are proud of the enthusiasm and progress the students continue to show.

DAY 1: REGISTERATION, ORIENTATION & GROUPING

Day One was all about getting everyone settled in and ready for the weeks ahead. We began with registration and orientation, giving our students a chance to understand what Project Tutored is all about and what they can look forward to.
We also divided the students into six groups to encourage better communication, teamwork, and interaction throughout the programme. We want every child to feel included, have a chance to participate, make new friends, and learn from one another.

It was a simple but important start, and we’re so excited for everything we have planned.
