One week ago, Macbeth closed, and I’m still not over it.

I’ve directed stories that challenged me, moved me, and changed the way I work. I love each and every one of them (and I’m currently revisiting a bunch for a secret project). But this one reached somewhere deeper. At this point in my life, it feels like a magnum opus: a culmination of 12 years of being a director.

For months, this cast, crew, and I built a world together that was ancient and powerful, mystical and raw, intimate and majestic, beautiful and violent. Then, for four nights, we got to share it with audiences willing to be transported with us.

I keep thinking about the moments that could only have happened because of this particular group of people. The risks the actors took. The care behind every costume, fight, cue, and transition. The way we learned to lean on one another and trust the version of this story we were telling. I’m proud of the production we made, but I’m even more grateful for the community that made it.

Thank you to our cast and creative team for giving so much of yourselves to this strange, beautiful, demanding thing. Thank you to Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre Company for trusting me with it, and to everyone who came and met us in the garden.

The journey isn’t completely over, but a week later, I’m still carrying Macbeth with me. I think I will be for a long time. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚔️🔥🩸👑

Something wicked returns to the garden… It’s the start of another two-show weekend, and I’m already not ready for this show to end.🌙🗡️

The response to MACBETH so far has been overwhelming. Every kind word is a testament to the talent, artistry, collaboration, and community this incredible cast and creative team have built together and the magic we create.

Join us tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 PM in the Connie Gretz Secret Garden at Snug Harbor.

If online reservations are closed, don’t let that stop you—there’s still plenty of space for walk-ups! Bring a lawn or beach chair. All are welcome beneath the trees.

And yes, I’m always going to say it: you do not have to leave Staten Island to find something to do. Sometimes the hardest part is just knowing what’s happening.

One glorious, packed opening weekend down. One more to go.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the response to our Macbeth this weekend. Full houses, incredible audiences, a truly KICK-ASS cast, and people telling us it was some of the best Shakespeare they’ve seen in years. What more could a director ask for?

We spent two months building this strange, bloody, beautiful world together—and watching this company finally unleash it beneath the trees and castle walls of the Connie Gretz Secret Garden has been pure magic.

And we’re not finished yet.

Two performances remain: September 18 & 19 at 7:30pm. We will be opening up more seats on the reservation site, but if you bring your own chair, there’s plenty of room for day-of walk ups! If you’ve been thinking about coming, come see what we’ve created FOR FREE. I am so, so proud of this one. ❤️

I could not be prouder of this extraordinary cast and creative team. They trusted me, challenged me, and brought this strange, ancient, bloody world to life more beautifully than I ever imagined.
This production is dedicated with endless love to Cara Liander—our friend, guiding spirit, and patron goddess. Her light is woven into every corner of this garden. ❤️

So much knowledge gained. Skills and lessons, mentors and peers, tolls and gas stations, I’ll take all of that with me, for our performances and for all future endeavors. I’ll keep working, I’ll keep growing, and if all of these people stay by my side, then I’ll call that a monumental win. I can’t put into words how grateful I am for this show and the relationships I’ve built along the way. Truly, life-changing. That’s a wrap for the 9th Annual: Not Forgotten Play Festival!
