Dream Big City is a non-profit organization founded by @alexnmurrell. Their mission is activate neglected and underutilized spaces and transform them into community hubs and open air community spaces. They do this through free events with free food for the public. They closed off a block in the Central Eastside for a public skatepark called the Dream Big Plaza.

I experienced their work for the first time a number of years ago with Fam Jam, a weekly open skateboarding event for the public. I’ve seen DJs, Live Bands, Live Painting, Vendors, and incredibly talented skaters come together for these events. These events were all done through a community effort with borrowed skate ramps all piled together. It was an organic and beautiful thing.

I have so much respect for @alexnmurrell. He’s lived through a lot and is using his experiences to make a difference in Portland. He’s putting everything he has into this non-profit and I genuinely believe that he wants to bring good energy and positive change wherever he goes. when he first described Dream Big to me, he said the goal was to love on spaces and the people who live in them.

I created this design for @dreambig.pdx. I think they’re going to make T-shirts and other merch. It’s an honor to support what they do.

Our building now matches the energy and magic happening inside! ✨🎨

We’re so excited to share photos from the MVM & Ascending Flow Block Party and the unveiling of our new community mural and BUS-A-Flow! You can view the full album on our Facebook page.

At My Voice Music, collaboration and community are at the heart of everything we do. Partnering with like-minded nonprofits is both beautiful and necessary—when we come together, we lift one another up and create an even greater impact for the young people we serve.

Huge gratitude to our buildingmates and program partners @ascendingflow, @cadacasa, mural artists @damonsmythart and @oc_note, and @oregonmetro for helping bring our community’s vision to life—and to our incredible building owners for saying “YES!” to a huge mural.

Every youth performance at the block party was inspiring. We loved seeing so many genres, cultures and generations come together in one place. Talilo—that protest song at the end had us FIRED UP!

Much love to all of the artists who shared the stage:

Thank you to @friendsofnoise for providing live sound; @pbotinfo and @getthereoregon for bringing free bike helmets and bike decorating; @dreambig.pdx for showing up with major support; and PBOT and Metro for helping make the celebration possible.

To all of the young people, families, artists, mentors, volunteers, partners, neighbors, staff and board members who joined us: thank you for helping us celebrate this next chapter of youth arts in East Portland. We are forever grateful and proud to be part of this community. ❤️

Free block party at Lillis-Albina Park, next to Harriet Tubman Middle School. Friday, August 14, from 4 to 7 PM.

Free food, music, prizes, basketball, games, face painting, and more. Come meet your neighbors and connect with service providers, community organizations, and first responders.

Portland artist @artbyalexchiu is leading a live community mural for youth and adults. Pick up a brush and be part of the art.

Sid @sidsk8pdx will be holding down the music as our youth DJ, plus doing a live solo performance.

National Night Out started in 1984 with a simple idea: turn on your porch light, sit outside, and meet your neighbors. That first year, 2.5 million people joined in across 400 communities in 23 states.

Forty-two years later, the point is still the same: show up, connect, and build a stronger community.

We’re also collecting non-perishable food donations for a community food drive. Bring something if you can.

2451 N Flint Ave. All ages. Everyone welcome. Nothing to buy.

Hosted by Dream Big City with the Office of Violence Prevention Safe Blocks Program.
