POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“Yeh Mera Ghar” is a Hindi film directed by Prabodh Bhajni. Set against the backdrop of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the film shows the hardships faced by migrant workers who leave their families and travel to the Gulf in search of work.
The film is heart-wrenching. The suffering of Mohan, who goes to Qatar as a construction worker, and the mother, wife, sister and daughter waiting for him to return, is portrayed movingly. As viewers, we too wait for Mohan to come home.
The director deserves appreciation for not showing Mohan’s body being brought home. The things he buys for his family, carried back by his friend, convey his absence more powerfully. The director’s talent moves us in every scene.
Mohan’s performance is very natural, and Faraz Khan of Hyderabad has done justice to the role. The girl who played his daughter also gives an excellent performance.
However, one thing made me uncomfortable: Mohan repeatedly sharing a cigarette with his sister. I could not understand what the director intended by showing this.

“Films That Shook Us - Questions That Moved Us” ~ Dr. Nalini

“Yeh Mera Ghar” made me deeply affected by the suffering of migrant workers and the loneliness of their families.
For the FIFA football matches that people enthusiastically watch in Qatar, how many lives were buried while constructing the stadiums?
This is the story of one such family.
It is said that more than 2,700 Indian workers died while constructing the stadiums there. Insufficient food, long working hours, excessive labour, and unsafe lives trapped in the hands of employers—all of this is part of their reality.

Some stories live beyond the spotlight. Centering the Sidelined brings together films that turn our attention towards people, communities and experiences often left at the margins, creating space for voices that deserve to be seen, heard and remembered.

This year, IFFM celebrates cinema that looks beyond the centre and reminds us why diverse stories matter. 🎬

Titled “Mirrors of Freedom”, the 9th edition of Frames of Freedom is a tribute to new experiments and emergent cinematic languages in the genre of fiction in India, that subvert “normalcy” with disruptive precision, show a mirror to the society and speak truth to power. This edition of the Festival stands witness to powerful, truthful, conscientious and committed cinema, rooted in deeply personal vision and conviction, as a medium of awakening and social change.
