An early rise today to wrap up harvest! The Obeideh came in sourced from two different vineyards from the big boss himself, Elias Maalouf of @chateaurayak.

The first parcel is in the village of El Khodr in the Bekaa Valley, sitting between 1,000 m and 1,100 m above sea level. The fruit is showing gorgeous color and ripeness, and will be the driving force behind the classic Obeideh aromas.

The second lot comes from a nearby terroir perched higher up at around 1,400 m, and those berries were smaller and will drive the freshness factor!

The berries are all macerating on skins until further notice :)!

I also checked in on the cellar, and the Pinot Noir from Ammiq is really showing off right now!!

Did some surveying at the Ammiq vineyard last Friday… acid and sugar levels looked pretty healthy, so we decided to harvest and process the Pinot Noir today. Cold soaking as we speak!!

HENI is headed on a summer hiatus. Our last day of service is Saturday, August 1; ‘Til then, our books are open for a glass at the bar, one last tasting menu, or bites à la carte. We’ll keep you posted on our September return. In the meantime, you’re in good hands over at @mafi.resto

New wines have reached HENI’s underground cellar just in time for our bi-weekly wine tasting. Tomorrow, guided by our sommelier Hadrien, we’ll range over Lebanese, Greek, Spanish, Italian and French cuvées over hors-d’oeuvres.

While the event begins Wednesday, June 10 at 6:30pm, its notes can already be felt; Swipe for the first soupçons.

Today’s decision pushed WAJD 2025 one step closer to the finish line! After hours of trialing various assemblages it feels as if we’ve reached a lovely balance. As teased earlier, WAJD is officially heading in a ‘blouge’ direction.

This vintage is deeply inspired by some of my favorite Alpine winemakers, so expect plenty of that zippy, high-altitude personality 😻⚡️

Tasting the wines as they evolve is a constant wonder; what a pleasure it is to craft something so alive that it speaks back to you!

I’ve previously mentioned that there would be changes this year… I recently got my hands on some neutral oak barrels, and so the Pinot Noir & Merwah have been gently resting for some months now. They will sleep until they ask to be woken, I suppose…

We’d nudge one another. “Look here, get this.” We’d shake our heads. How could it be that one of the oldest wine-producing cultures in the world was also one of the lesser-known? Over the next two weeks, awe rose and grew into our permanent state.

In the mountainous highlands of Lebanon, our backs arched over ancestral vines, soil filled our every fold, camera batteries drained in what felt like minutes and portable chargers never seemed mobile enough.

The tales of the vintners who motioned us closer extended far beyond the grape-stained pages of our notebooks. Rather than condense their roots, we dreamt up a place, before acquiring a space, where the pace of service would be tuned to the rhythm of their stories.

Here, by way of our own import agency, we’d guide Montrealers to unearth ancient-world wines. We’d see to it that they’d come to know the names of those shaping its new identity, forming its working legacy. We’d poke holes in the hierarchy of wine, strip the bias down to nothingness. We’d hold a round classic next to a daring newcomer.

It came to us on long bus rides zigzagging across terraced slopes, to the chime of alarms set early enough to beat the heat. We didn’t go searching for HENI—it hit us like a freight train, collapsed into our jet-lagged laps and commanded our instant all, tugging at our heart strings immediately, if not sooner.
