Fall Fishing in the Mammoth Lakes Region is a peaceful time to cast a line with thinner crowds and a golden glow showing off. 🍂🎣

"Now it's time for trophy trout fly fishing for browns and rainbows", says Fred Rowe of @sierrabrightdot.

Lakes and streams are the best bet for regular fishing season, which closes on Nov 15th this year.

Here are a few of Fred's favorite year round spots:
-Lee Vining Creek*
-Mammoth Creek*
-Convict Creek* (between 395 & Convict Lake)
-Upper Owens River (above Benton Crossing bridge)

*Winter Conditions: these areas switch to winter regulations on Nov 16: catch & release only with barbless artificial flies and lures only, access dependent on weather conditions). Upper Owens River catch & release fly fishing only.

As usual, check the full fishing regulations and closures before heading out. Make sure to clean, drain and dry your float tubes and kayaks if not wading or shore fishing.

Drop a photo of your best catch this season in the comments!

Old school charm meets new school shop.

Tomorrow is a BIG moment for us: we’re officially going from punching every single item into the register individually to scanning nearly every product in the shop.

Welcome to the future, folks. We have barcodes now.

Getting here has meant late nights, endless spreadsheets, bleary eyes, inventory counts, troubleshooting, and a whole lot of navigating the new while preserving everything we love about the old.

Our new point-of-sale system might not sound glamorous, but it’s a huge step toward becoming a better shop for every Southern California angler and every visitor who walks through our doors. And eventually, it’ll become the backbone of our website and online shop, too.

Until then? There will definitely be some growing pains. But we couldn’t be happier to finally be here.

A huge thank you to our team for the hard work, patience, and dedication it took to bring this long-awaited update to life.

The technology might be changing, but we’re still your friendly neighborhood fly shop: here for everyone from the first-timer figuring out what a tippet is to the certified fly junkie planning their next adventure.

Mountains. Seas. Cities. Wherever you fish, we’re here for it.

Hopefully we’ll see you in the shop soon. Until then, tight lines and happy tying.

P.S. A special thank you to our temp intern, @mobblele , for bringing some much-needed chaotic Gen Z energy into the shop and editing what might genuinely be the greatest fly shop point-of-sale system update video ever made.

No cap. (lol Are we using that correctly?)

LET’S GO CAMPING! 🏕️🇺🇸

The 5th Annual Overlanding for Warriors is headed back to California’s Eastern Sierra, November 13–15, 2026!

What started five years ago as an idea to bring the overlanding community together for a good cause has turned into one hell of a weekend — camping, trail runs, live music, campfires, great people, and most importantly, raising money in support of Wounded Warrior Project. 🇺🇸

This year our goal is $40,000, and we’re already well over halfway there!

We still have a limited number of tickets available, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, don’t wait too long. Grab your camping crew, bring the family, and come spend Veterans Day weekend with an incredible community in one of my favorite places on earth.

Hit the link in my profile to learn more, grab your ticket, or donate directly to Wounded Warrior Project.

See you in the Eastern Sierra! 🤘🇺🇸

How to properly extinguish your campfire - even when you’re tired and ready to hit the road:

1. Drown it - Pour water on it. A lot of it. That bucket the campground gave you 30 feet away is there for a reason.

2. Stir it - Mix the ash and embers into a slurry.

3. Drown it again.

4. Feel it - Hold the back of your hand just above it. If you feel any heat, repeat.

A campfire left hot can smolder for hours and reignite in wind.

Cold to the touch = dead out.

Do you check yours with your hand before you leave?
