From Gander to Canada's North - and now exploring the future of nursing and virtual care.

Born and raised in Gander, Crystal Vaughan has built a nursing career that has taken her from rural acute care in Gander and Carbonear to primary and community health in Labrador, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

A registered nurse, MN and PhD candidate at Memorial University, Crystal is exploring an important question: As health care becomes increasingly virtual, are we making the most of what nurses can do?

Drawing on research in Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia, she's examining how nurses contribute to virtual primary care, the challenges they face and how their expertise can be better supported.

It's a conversation about technology, yes. But more importantly, it's about people - and making health care work better for the communities that depend on it.

Join us tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 16, for the next presentation in the Faculty of Nursing's 2026-27 Academic Series.

Presentation: Understanding Virtual Nursing Practice in Primary Care: Implications, Recommendations, and Next Steps From a Multiple Case Study

Despite everything happening with @sigmanursing right now, I’m proud to have contributed to Cultivating Compassion in Nursing.

The stories are powerful, the case studies are thought-provoking, and the message matters.

We can demand accountability while still supporting meaningful work. ❤️
