This book is a lesson on female friendships, relationships, motherhood, care-giving, love, obedience, mental health, growth and acceptance seen through the lens of understanding and cultural appreciation. . WITHOUT SPOILERS: we follow three friends, Funmi, Enitan and Zainab who met when they attended the same univeristy in Zaria. Over the years, life took them down different paths and they finally reunite for the first time at Funmi's daughter (Destiny) wedding. We see Funmi shift her dissatisfaction with her own marriage into planning a wedding for her unenthusiastic daughter; Enitan struggling to understand her biracial daughter and Zainab struggling to provide care for her husband who just suffered a stroke and her 4 children. I love the culture rich story telling and I am happy that the author explained culture rich references enough to maintain relevance; I am tired of African authors overexplaining things to their audience 😮‍💨. The level of cultural exploration in the book was enough for a Nigerian to love and a push for non-Nigerians to learn more about the culture 😑😌. It is not a textbook, do your homework 😮‍💨. . I would have appreciated alternating chapters that switch between past and present; it would have heightened by anticipation 🐤. I wish we got to see the commotion that Destiny's decision caused 🤣🤣🤣; I can imagine the drama!!! . Overall I loved this book, it made me think of my mum and my own friends 😌. .
