For years, on the drive to his sister’s house, Silas House passed an old house whose front wall had fallen down. A tree was growing up out of the piano in its front room. He made that tree a tulip poplar and opened his new novel with it. The Tulip Poplars follows a gay couple and an interracial couple from Bright Star, Kentucky, to New York City—and through the joys and sorrows of six decades.

It’s been a great day here at the @sofestofbooks in Nashville. I’ve gone to some sessions, bought some books and gotten some signed.

Tomorrow come see @rebeccalangcook , @baconscholar , and me too in the Harpeth Room from 1-2 with signings afterward!!

My friend, @silashouse will also be here tomorrow in the Cumberland Tent, right outside the room I’ll be in. If we squint, we’ll be able to see each other because he’s on at the same time. He’ll be talking about The Tulip Poplars, his new book. I’m still gonna get to see him next week in Knoxville though.

Come see all of us!

I was proud to support my friend @silashouse and the release of his new novel, The Tulip Poplars, at his book reading at Frankfort's Paul Sawyier Public Library.

I got to read an early draft of THE TULIP POPLARS last year and knew immediately that Silas had reached a new level. The book is a breathtaking, expansive examination of longing and love and identity and faith and trying to be good and sometimes succeeding and sometimes not. This week, I got to celebrate TULIP POPLARS twice: first in Lexington, at the Burl, for a truly magical book launch; then in Louisville, I interviewed him in front of a packed church sanctuary. The setting felt appropriate, not just because of the book’s themes of faith and doubt, but because that many people gathering to celebrate a work of art is its own kind of spiritual experience. I’ve always said it’s the best part of my job that I get to be friends with my favorite authors. Silas, I hope you’ll walk with me a ways. (If not, imma just follow you around.) 🌳

Buy the ticket as the mural says, and be sure to meet your heroes if given the opportunity!

Silas House has been one of my literary heroes since being introduced to his works in a book club 10 years ago. The way he so beautifully captures the joy and tragedy, the comedy and despair, and both the depravity and goodness of humanity never ceases to amaze me.

I enjoyed hearing him speak about and read excerpts from his new book, “The Tulip Poplars,” at the very special venue @theburlky and my beloved local library @psplib this week. I just might stay up all night tonight to read my copy of “The Tulip Poplars,” in one setting!

This is what happens when you love a book too much - we're currently sold out of the new one from @silashouse because Simone and Ellen can't stop recommending it. But don't fear - we have more on the way! If you'd like a copy of this stunning Appalachian love story then let us know and we'll contact you when more copies arrive. ❤📚
