When artists collide: @simiautomatic transforms my black and white photograph into a one-of-one cyanotype print.

Featured in our exhibition Forces of Nature, Sagrada is a wonderful reinterpretation by Simi Mahtani of my black and white photography within the fashion world.

A cyanotype is basically a sun print. It relies on light-sensitive iron salts that react to ultraviolet light. Simi applied this technique to an inverted print of my photograph and layered it with found botanicals revealing hidden connections between nature and the built environment.

You can view this original artwork at the Greenpoint Savings Bank from 9AM-10PM until 8/28.

UPDATE: SOLD!

Here’s a sentence that’s never been written before:

@culturehousebk (807 Manhattan Ave.), the cannabis dispensary that took over the historic Greenpoint Savings Bank, just opened a new art gallery in what used to be the building’s vault 🏦🖼️💨

Brooklyn-based artists @simiautomatic and @kpgnyc.street have teamed up for Forces of Nature, the inaugural show at The Vault Gallery. Gould’s monochrome photographs of New York City pair with Mahtani’s botanical cyanotypes to transform the space.

It’s a sign of a vibe shift at the cannabis dispensary, which took over from the controversial FlynnStoned earlier this year (in something of a complicated legal saga).

Stop by on Friday, July 17 for an opening reception from 6 to 9pm. The show runs for six weeks, during the gallery’s hours of 9am to 10pm.

Descend into The Vault for Forces of Nature this Friday, July 17th, 6-9 PM. 807 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, at the Greenpoint Savings Bank 🏦 @culturehousebk

Installing a piece of art into a solid steel vault wall made me feel like James Caan in Michael Mann’s 1981 Thief.

Forces of Nature is an immersive art exhibition and experience set in the lower level of a historic bank vault.

Where do you keep your valuables?

RSVP via my link in bio. Few tickets remaining!
