What an incredible 3 days in Halifax for NCT’26! When people asked me my highlight, I couldn’t choose just one - it was the buzz. The buzz of learning. The buzz of connection. The buzz of community. From the excitement of the inaugural Research Day, to inspiring keynotes from diverse healthcare voices, to hands-on sessions that brought ideas to life… From celebrating outstanding and deserving award recipients on the main stage all the way to the dance floor, and paying tribute to the legacy of chiropractic giant, Dr. Greg Kawchuk. Seeing the chiropractic community come together to elevate the future of our profession, and the healthcare system, was truly inspiring. This is a buzz that doesn’t end here… it’s momentum for the work ahead! In the words of Dr. Kawchuk… Together, we’re better! And this weekend was the perfect example.

Returning National Champion Catherine Gagné enters with a massive 449.5kg nominated total, the current National total record in the class. She already owns the squat, deadlift and total record, and will likely look to extend these ever further. On paper, this is her class to control. If she executes, she could widen the gap even further on bench and put the total out of reach before deadlifts load. With Marie Joaquin moving down to the 47kgs, the gold medal position currently looks like Catherine’s to command , but Nationals is never that simple. Behind her, Bindi Mehta and seasoned veteran Simone Lai will be locked in a battle for the remaining podium spots. This is where the real tension may build: smart attempt selection, making lifts under pressure, and capitalizing on any missed opportunities. And then there’s the bench record. The long-standing 98.5kg National bench record, set by Joanne Rieber in 2018, has held firm for years. The question is whether 2026 is finally the year it falls? The 52kg gold may look clear — but silver, bronze, and the record books? Those are very much in play. #powerlifting #canadapowerlifting
