Listen to “Doorway”, the third and final single from Kathryn Mohr’s second full length album Carve out April 17 on The Flenser. “I wrote this song while i was staying in the single wide in the Mojave desert. it wrote itself really. the riffs came to me one after another and the lyrics were originally stream of consciousness and me randomly reading from my notebook.” The time she spent recording Carve in the desert did not create isolation so much as mirror it. Working alone out of an old, western-themed jail Airbnb, the physical enclosure reflected the emotional conditions under which much of the record had been written: distance, restraint, and long stretches of stillness. In that context, love was not experienced as escape, but as something inseparable from impermanence and the awareness of loss.  On view: February 6 through July 19, 2026 Opening Reception: Friday, Feb 6th, 6-9pm Location: Asian Resource Center, 310 8th Street, Oakland, CA Featuring the work of Ngân Vũ, Senny Mau, Laura Ming Wong, Stella Kalaw and Jessica Chen. Family bonds are unique within each family’s dynamic. There are times when we cannot put the depth of our feelings into words - often a generational fear of showing vulnerability keeps us from bearing our emotions fully. We must find other ways to express the love we have for each other. This exhibition is a visual expression documenting the many ways love is conveyed without words. Connection is found in small acts of service, a reassuring touch, quiet presence, or a moment of silence. Love finds a way, where words fail us. This exhibition is in partnership with the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC), the East Bay Photo Collective (EBPCO), and with additional support from Underdog Film Lab and Uproar Design and Print. First roll of film of 2026. Yeah I’m definitely a bit rusty. I’m not sure why, but I really haven’t had the motivation to shoot film in a long while. I also haven’t really felt like myself in the past few months. But I’m trying get back to the self that I used to know little by little, day by day, roll by roll.
