More captures from our @worldheartbeat concert. Thank you @lloyd.winters for encapsulating the magic of the evening so beautifully 🥲 Time to shine a light on the talented artists who opened the show...

I first met the mesmerising @maybeitschar years ago when we were asked to sing at an Amy Winehouse tribute event. Her voice captivated me & we became IG friends, her single Midnight (which you are hearing on this post) is on heavy rotation at my house & more recently she has embarked upon a journey of new spiritual depths, fusing her comforting vocals with the healing sounds of @handpanandlife. I felt so much anxiety leading up to this concert, not only due to not having put something like this on for a long time, but a week before the show, I received confirmation that I was due to have a big surgery in December… something I’ve been avoiding for several years that I can no longer run from… autonomic nervous system dysfunction can lead to extreme rushes of stress hormones being released and I find it very difficult to exist when it’s happening. It impacts my ability to eat, sleep and just *be* in my body… I was so very thankful that Char & Richard had agreed to open the night. Char inviting us all in the audience to take deep collective breaths together, helped ground & calm me so very much. The songs that followed felt like a warm embrace calling from the ocean that is our collective consciousness 🌊 I urge you to follow @maybeitschar’s journey if you ever struggle with being yourself and make sure you check out her YouTube channel✨

Following Char and Richard’s moving opening, I felt super emotional introducing my sister Kyla Simone Bruce to the stage. Kyla is talented in so many ways, filmmaking, painting, baking… & has found it difficult to sing and play in front of people… when I asked her to perform a set and she agreed, I knew the audience would be in for a rare treat. The raw emotion, the range of her songwriting and expression, left everyone feeling very inspired, and in disbelief that this was her first concert performing her solo material!

With all the ups & downs, one thing I know to be true, music holds so much magic, I’m very thankful✨

I’m still coming down from Wednesday night 🥲✨ something that I truly didn’t know would be possible actually happened. After years of debilitating illness… we performed the new album ‘Latent Echo’ from start to finish at the gorgeous @worldheartbeat, held in the warmth & love of the most beautifully captive audience. We laughed, cried & sang together… for the first time in a very long time, I felt the depth of connection sharing live music can bring.

Thanking my talented musician friends from the bottom of my heart for bringing these dreams into fruition. My OG collaborators @renellshaw 🎶 & @camilo_tirado 🪘 + my new friends @michael.watts.guitar 🎸& @ellewkeyz 🎹 Your talent & time mean the absolute world.

Thank you to everyone who came down & joined us on this journey through the forests & caves… the owls are still calling to me on the breeze 🦉 we managed to evade the dragon 🐉 & i love each & every one of you 🥹✨

More to share soon…

FROM BANANA WASTE TO BALUCHISTAN TO LONDON FASHION WEEK ❤️‍🔥

For DIASPORA: THE ART OF BELONGING, I wanted to bring together two very different worlds: material innovation and traditional craft.

The sleeves and jorts of this look are made entirely from banana leather, developed by @banofi.bio from upcycled banana crop waste.

The jacket carries intricate needlework handmade by young women in Baluchistan, Iran, through @lougchokancharity.
Each piece of embroidery is made by hand, taking months of patience, skill and dedication.

What makes this look particularly meaningful to me is that these two materials, one born from agricultural waste and material innovation, the other from generations of craft and cultural knowledge, meet in the same garment.

And then it was hand finished by me in London to be ready to be showcased on the Catwalk.

The women who made the needlework were so excited to see their work on the London Fashion Week catwalk. Knowing that something made by their hands travelled from Baluchistan to London, and was seen by the world, is something I will carry with me.

Traditional craft. New materials. One story carried across borders.

Thank you @banofi.bio for making this collaboration possible and for providing the banana leather for the collection.

And thank you @lougchokancharity for the incredible work you are doing to support and create opportunities for young women in Baluchistan.

DIASPORA is about what we carry with us:
culture, memory, craft, identity and what happens when we allow those things to move into something new.
