Adapting to our environment is one of the beauties of creating outdoor theatre, and of course, sometimes, it rains outside. To keep our By Fire series going during inclement weather/indoor performances, or when provincial burn restrictions prevent open fires, we had to adapt. Our technical director, John Thomson, created an artificial fire set piece that we use to keep that fiery glow burning for our evening performances! While an artificial fire won't give off any heat, it still immerses us in the timeless tradition of telling stories in the dark. Immigration stories are part of Canada's story. They are stories of courage, sacrifice, separation, and the hope of building a new life. While destinations and circumstances may change, the emotions remain remarkably familiar. Inspired by the real correspondence between an Irish husband and wife during the Great Famine, Emma Donoghue's The Wind Coming Over The Sea is a stirring folk musical that reminds us that behind every migration is a deeply human story. Though rooted in 19th-century Ireland, its themes continue to resonate with immigrant experiences that have shaped, and continue to shape, communities across Canada. As one reviewer describes: "The Wind Coming Over The Sea explores the universality of love and loss with a beautiful poignancy... in beautifully harmonized Irish songs from romantic ballads to toe-tappers to tragic laments" Join us under the open sky at Ross Creek this summer for this moving celebration of resilience, hope, and the enduring power of love across oceans. 🎟️ Tickets available now at twoplanks.ca Photo: Sophie Schade, Lily Falk, and Tim Machin in The Wind Coming Over The Sea. Telling stories around a fire is a timeless human tradition. Telling spooky stories around a fire equally so, and our audiences agree that The Monkey's Paw is a story that certainly works well by the warm glow of a fire. "This story so perfectly suits a fireside telling with the ever-stoked fire acting as the family hearth. The shadows at its age grow larger and scarier in the ever-deepeninf darkness" -Audience Member The Monkey's Paw shows every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening at 9:00pm until August 15. We open our 35th season this week — and how wonderful it's been to make theatre around the fire again! Our production of "The Monkey's Paw" is based on the classic short story by W.W. Jacobs, adapted and directed by our very own Ken Schwartz. The show features Lily Falk, Becca Guilderson, Tim Machin, Chris O'Neill, Hugh Ritchie, Sophie Schade, and Sam Vigneault. A couple are granted three wishes after acquiring a strange artifact — a mummified Monkey's Paw — but pay a terrible price for interfering with fate. This cautionary tale reminds us to be careful what we wish for. So join us for our fireside show this summer on the North Mountain! Head to our website (Link in Bio) to grab your tickets now!
